Keith, just wondering if you would mind doing me a huge favour...

I am yet to purchase my AP for the trip and was wondering if you would mind letting me know what the 'at the gate' price is so I can either buy it here or if its better at the gate ( like it was last time) I'll get it when I arrive.

Ta :)

Hi Lisa. Will you be visiting enough to warrant buying an AP? They took a massive hit in the prices just yesterday as a result of the new Cars Land and also Disney trying to reduce the number of AP holders in California.

These are is the newest park prices:
1 day 1 park-----$87
1 day Park Hop--$125
Deluxe------------$469
Premium----------$699 (last week, these were $499!)
Premier-----------$749 (although this is likely to go to $849 very soon)

You may be able to still buy them here through your travel connections at the old price if you are lucky - they only went up in price yesterday.

Good luck!

Wow.... thats a HUGE increase... nearly $100... might have to rethink that, I was expecting it to rise, but hadn't budgeted for that much...
at a small increase it would have been worth it, with the discounts all over the place, but perhaps not $100 worth...

hmmm... back to the drawing board. Wishing I had bought it last week now... :?

I wonder why they want to reduce the number of AP holders in California? that seems odd.

Thanks for the info Keith :)

They have over a million passholders there now, and they basically use the park like a shopping mall hang out :)

Disney want people to come to the park to have a good time and spend lots of money like us tourists (whereas most APs spend little on their frequent visits yet they tie up the lines for attractions and act like they own the place!). They also want Disneyland to become a place for special memories and an event destination to go to, not just a place to pop in after work on a weekday like a local bowling alley. By increasing the price so much, I would think that quite a few APs will drop off.

Locals can still buy the cheap SOCAL AP with its blockout days, but if they want to go all year, they'll have to pay for it with a much more expensive Premier AP, or buy individual tickets for events like Christmas time.

I don't have a problem with this shift in attitude by Disney

yep, that makes sense... :D I have a few online friends(Anaheim locals) who do exactly what you were describing... they pop in and out like its maccas. I will say though, I've always been jealous of that :)

oh well, I better start looking at other alternatives.

I agree with that strategy too, good move. We noticed that the crowds at WDW are much better, more relaxed and less demanding at WDW than at DL. Makes the trip more pleasant when the people around you are in the similar frame of mind than yourself.

Does the strategy work because there are always people visiting Disneyland? Is there much of a seasonal variation in numbers there?

I have had season passes to both Dreamworld and Movieworld in the past and gotten good deals as a Gold Coast local but there is a real difference in seasonal numbers at the Gold Coast parks so I can understand them trying to encourage locals in the quiet times.

Of course I used to just drop in and look at the tigers while i had a cup of tea or just go on the Batman ride so i was one of those annoying locals. 8)

The Ghirardeli Soda Fountain Chocolate Shop soft-opened in DCA today. From the look of the menu, I'm going to be one very happy camper!
