This beautifully designed hardcover collector’s edition features a foreword by Diane Disney Miller, Walt Disney’s eldest daughter. Early Disneyland designer and Imagineer Sam McKim provided the introduction while several key figures in Disney history have offered their unique perspectives, including Art Linkletter, acclaimed showman, host, interviewer, producer, entrepreneur, and businessman; and other artists that have been designated as “Disney Legends” for their remarkable contributions to the Walt Disney Company.
Alice Davis, costume designer for Disney’s theme park attractions; Harriet Burns, one of the earliest “Imagineers” who worked in the model shop; Margaret Kerry, fondly remembered as the original live-action rotoscope model for Tinker Bell in Walt Disney’s animated classic “Peter Pan”; and more.

Disneyland…The Beginning: Collector’s Edition”. Fourth in a series, this elaborate edition contains rare, never-before-published photographs.

Featured throughout the book are black and white, color, and aerial photographs of Disneyland’s earliest years, 1954 - 1960. Throughout the twelve-month period in 1954 -1955, Kilpatrick documented the construction of Main Street, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland. Also highlighted are several forgotten exhibits, including the bandstand at Plaza Gardens, Davy Crockett Arcade and Museum, Casa de Frito (with the Frito Kid), the Disneyland Stagecoach, the original Golden Horseshoe Revue, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the installation of the TWA Rocket to the Moon, and many other memorable attractions.

Also included in this collector’s edition are photographs of Vice President Richard Nixon and his family, Fess Parker (as Davy Crockett), Art Linkletter, Karen Pendleton (one of the original Mouseketeers from the Mickey Mouse Club), actress Irene Dunn, and many more celebrities, politicians, and corporate leaders.

Carlene Thie’s remarkable family legacy (her grandmother Katherine Kilpatrick was a Disneyland cast member working on Tom Sawyer’s Island in Frontierland and her father, Curtis Sissel served as a mortar mixer on the original construction of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, the entrance into Fantasyland) leaves her with a great appreciation for, and ability to share with us, the building and creation of the world’s happiest place on earth, Disneyland.
