Hi everyone,

Thought you might like to check this out. :D

The World of Color at DCA. on Disney Blog.
By Walt Disney Imagineer Steven Davison.

I can’t believe how close we are to the opening! It’s been a crazy few months, but I’m having a great time putting together this show.

Today I’m sharing a first look at how we’re getting the fountains to “dance.” Since “World of Color” doesn’t have any live performers, the fountains will become our dancers and actors. To help with staging the fountains, we brought in Joshua Horner. Josh is a fantastic choreographer from Australia. One of his dreams was to work with Walt Disney Imagineering on a show. Well, I am glad we were able to make his dream come true!

We asked Josh to take the musical score for the show and create a style and choreographic point of view for each number. Whether it was the signature look to the show’s theme, or the lush balletic moves in “Part of Your World,” Josh put his heart and soul into the movement of each piece.

The end result of his work was inspiring. We brought the creative team together and had Josh present his ideas. For each of us it became a wonderful fount of inspiration that sparked new ideas and really helped shaped the show.

Today we’ll give you a glimpse into the process.

World of Color Dining at Disneyland.

(05/28/2010) – Anaheim, California – The Disneyland Resort announced today two new dining packages that will debut in conjunction with Disney’s World of Color, a nighttime fountain, music and projection show debuting June 11th at Disney’s California Adventure Park. The packages, available in two seatings, include the cost of meals and a specially-reserved post-dinner area from which to watch World of Color.

Two dining options are available in this new dining package. The first, geared towards families, is at Ariel’s Grotto, a character-driven dining location on Paradise Bay. The package is $36.99 for adults and $20.99 for children ages 3-9. The second, geared more for adults, is at The Wine Country Trattoria, a Northern California-themed dining facility in The Golden State, across from Paradise Bay. This package is $39.99 for adults; children’s prices have not yet been announced.

After dinner, guests will be escorted to a specially-reserved viewing area for World of Color, negating the need to obtain a ShowPass for the first performance or wait in a queue for a second or third performance.

Reservations for either experience may be made by calling The Disneyland Dining Hotline, at 714-781-DINE; no credit card is required. Meal prices at Wine Country Trattoria do not include alcoholic beverages.

World of Color Dining at Disneyland.
This is the best piece of news on this site for a while. The ability to purchase a dining package with a reserved viewpoint for the World of Color is great for all of us travelling from overseas. The problem with WoC is that there are 1 million annual passholders who will be packing into DCA to see the show - and the odds of mortals like ourselves getting a good viewing position are pretty slim. Annual passholders won't normally lash out for a dining package, mainly because they can come back every night to try and get a better viewpoint in the general viewing area if they weren't satisfied with their first try. However, visitors like ourselves only get one shot at it (or a few shots if we stay there for a week) - so pre-purchasing a dining package with a reserved viewing area is great for us. I'd highly recommend anyone heading over there to pre-book your spot!

Are the dining packages applicable to single diners or are they "twin share" like everything else in the travel world?

Actually that's an interesting question. I had always assumed that the dining packages were offered on a per person basis. I only ate from carts or takeaway type stuff cos I didn't want to be sitting solo - although I wouldn't be so concerned next time.

I'm assuming they'd sell single tickets - they do for the Fantasmic package.

Just a bit of an update on the current ways to see this show... along with dining packages there is now a FAST PASS option.

heres the link

How dang hard would they be to get ... you'd have to be in line HOURS AND HOURS ahead of rope drop I'd wager. Still, who needs sleep right? sleep is for sleepy people. I'd definitely have a go at obtaining a FP cos they give you access to the reserved viewing area and that way, you don't have to line up for a month to get to see it ( if the opening day is anything like Toy Story Mania  - the most enduring memory of that day was the endless stationary line in the baking California sun and the sunburn the following days in all my photos )

And check out the merch for this attraction on one of the side links... I want one of those light up glasses and the fairy floss on a light up wand!!!! -/

It is getting close to the opening of World of Color - I can't wait to read all the reports on the internet on the weekend :)

It is a shame that Wendy and Ashley just missed it. There were no soft openings, so unless they were able to talk/cry/beg their way into a cast member preview, I'm afraid they would have missed out by just a few days!

It was amazing, The new talking mickey came onstage and opened the show talking with Disney Parks Chairman Tom Staggs and Bob Iger. And then waved his wand and the show kicked off. Disney have really stepped it up a level I think. Probably only complaint was its a bit PIXAR heavy. I guess the good thing is the show can be changed and altered easily as its only programing and video etc. I really cant wait to see this live for myself.

Me too - I might even try to get over there in the second half of next year if I can get a cheap flight. I'm itching to see it!

WOW! Just seeing the promo gets a WOW! I too am really keen to see this.

Are you concerned about the whole PIXAR thing Marc or just in this show? I don't mind PIXAR being integrated. They are not really replacing any of the classics with PIXAR things. And I think PIXAR is as much Disney now as the classics. In 50 years time, they will be celebrating PIXAR as we do now the classic animated movies. And it is a good fit with a show like this in DCA. But until I actually see the show, can't really comment.
