We're booking!

Postby KeithS » Sun Mar 15, 2009 9:28 am

Alright - despite all those construction walls around the parks, we've decided we'll be booking for September this year - that D23 Expo looks like it will be a lot of fun, so we intend to go to Anaheim for 10 nights - including the Expo. We were also planning on New York to catch Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid, but we may have to miss out on that because of the Expo dates and work-clashes.

I'm just going to book one of the Harbor Blvd hotels near the traffic lights, they are around $110USD a night for the 10 days we want to go. Once everything is set in stone, I'll have my counter up and running :)

Is anyone else interested in going to the Expo? We could have an unofficial club meeting over there...

Yippee! -/

I can recommend Camelot Suites. Very clean and comfortable but don't get excited about the breakfast - American coffee, pastries and juice - much better have breakfast with Goofy or McDonalds next door!

...and now Wayne and Jennifer have booked as well! And Gerard is looking for flights - so who else wants to come along?

Qantas flights for September are down to $1,555 at the moment and will probably get lower.

This D23 Expo may be a one off event - remember the 2005 Disney Insider Yearbook? One issue, launched with great fanfare, then cancelled the very next year after we handed over our cash for it, expecting an ongoing collectors item. Will D23 and the Expo turn out like that?

Quite possibly - hence why I don't want to miss this first event!

Oh, if only I was able to commit that far ahead I would probably be there.

I was actually thinking that I could get 3 nights in Anaheim + airfares for about $1400 at the moment, which would only cost me $500 after my little government present arrives. I have been tempted to do it just so I can get on a plane and go somewhere. 12 months ago I was in Mumbai and it seems like a lifetime ago now. :(

Well done Keith. You have definitely strayed away from your original intent. But sounds like the Australian contingent will be well served in Anaheim in September for the expo. You'll have to make new plans now to see the library in San Fran, that's a shame isn't it? :D

You said despite the construction walls, and I must say that every time I see a cheap fare (like the recent $977 fares), we always ended up using them to justify our NOT going. We're happy to wait until most of the work's complete (for happy read frustrated like hell, but probably best if we do).

Enjoy the planning. September NASCAR events are Richmond, Atlanta, Loudon and Dover. Depending how long you can hold off, Fontana is on October 11th.

Thats great Keith... :D

You boys really shouldn't be talking bout this while I have enough money to book and go in my account. Trouble is... its all earmarked for glasses for one kid and stuff for the other one, car rego and the majority of rest for mr. Visa, so there is no way I can give into temptation and head over to the US with Kruds little stimulus gift (this time).

Actually, I'm really looking forward to your reports on the expo :D ... wish it was me though.

We are scarily similar - I looked those events up too! It is a shame Fontana wasn't a little earlier!

I think we'll be booking this weekend. It'll be either 7 nights in New York followed by 8-9 in Anaheim, or 9 in Anaheim followed by hiring a car and drive around SoCal for a week. We are leaning toward NY (I want to see The Little Mermaid on Broadway...)

Yep - that's where I'm leaning, but accommodation costs for NY are very steep - about three times what we pay in Anaheim...it is looking more likely that we'll stay on the West Coast.

Yay!!!! Very exciting! This time next month - you'll be there!!! -/ -/ -/

It's a deal! Although we've done that before haven't we? hehe.

Thanks for the Desert Inn info - I'm also looking to book flights (at least one of them) on the A380. We are going to New York first and they aren't flying there yet, but my return flight should be an A380.

Our return flights to the US on Qantas - including the NY leg - is only $1,107 - including taxes - just crazy!
