Yep, they will be going permanently, but as Anthony says, you've probably got 12 months at least.
The letters are there at the moment because when you look at the front gate from the esplanade, it looks like a postcard from California, with the lettering across the middle, the Golden Gate bridge, the painted backdrop etc - I thought it looked okay. But as they are moving DCA from a vision of modern California (with references to its history) into the 1920's California Walt first saw, the current postcard entry had to go.
Although I'm excited by the whole DCA makeover, I'm wondering how they are going to address the symetry of the esplanade? At the moment, there is equal distance between the centre star in the esplanade and the two park entrances, I wonder if they are going to lift all those pavers up and re-arrange them? I hope they don't move my paver...!!! (See Google Earth to see what I mean)
