DISNEY COMICS

Postby bubba74 » Fri Jan 22, 2010 6:09 am

Disney comics are the absolute best. I thought I'd get that out of my system first off. My Dad and I used to go to the local market and get a heap of Disney comics (Dad liked the Donald Duck ones the best!). I have a pretty good collection from the 70s and 80s that no one is allowed to touch at home.

Has anyone else seen the Disney comics that are currently listed on Ebay? I picked up some Australian reprints that one particular seller had listed and now he's selling the original American comics. I couldn't believe when they were from. He has stuff from 1960 and they look pretty good. I'll let you know if I'm successful picking up some of these. Ciao!

Hey there - welcome Bubba74 to our little part of the world. I believe our webmaster Greg is the big comic fan around here - especially Donald Duck comics. The two of you could be talking for hours - except that he is currently in South Africa tagging dangerous animals (no, I'm not kidding...that's what he's doing).

Anyway, welcome to the Down Under Disneyana forum!

Hello Bubba74,

I'm also a collector of the comics and have purchased quite a few over the years of ebay. I have to confess though, that I am not a 'do not touch' kind of collector, I buy them to reminisce so I read each and every one before storing them. I figure they've been through who knows how many hands before they got to mine and are still holding up so one more read through won't damage them. Enjoy them, they are a great art form.

Thanks for the warm welcomes. Its always nice to hear that someone else shares my passion for the greatest comics ever made. Maybe I'll learn from your example, Lisa, and let my son read them occasionally. While being watched and I'll turn the pages. Baby steps, baby steps...

Does anyone know the best places to look (apart from Ebay) for good deals on pre-1970s Disney comics, Australian or American?

Cheers :)

Garage sales and second hand book stores are a good source. I've got some treasures from them thats for sure. Half the fun is the search sometimes.

You know what? We are clearing the garage to turn it into a scrapping studio and in my husbands very old stuff from the 70's was a Donald Duck comic in almost perfect condition - I was going to take it to the next meeting figuring Miguel could give me an appraisal!
