The Mandalorian (Spoilers - be warned)

Postby KeithS » Wed Nov 20, 2019 7:42 am

So for the first night of Disney+ I watched the first two episodes of The Mandalorian and really enjoyed it.  It still felt like the Star Wars universe, yet a completely separate part of the galaxy far far away.

For those that don't know, Mandalorians are a race of bounty hunters like Boba Fett from The Empire Strikes Back - they get tasked to bring in bounties dead or alive (more for alive).

The TV show is set five years after the fall of Darth Vader and the Empire - yet there are remnants of the former empire in hiding throughout the galaxy.  The TV show follows the titular Mandalorian who is tasked by a former Empire officer with collecting an off the books bounty.  The bounty has definite links back to the original trilogy, though we don't know how yet.

I thought it was great to see the old beaten up Jawa sandcrawler reappear in this series - that was cool.

So much to talk about about I'll let others chime in once you've caught up with the episodes!

I would also like to get some of the artwork from the closing credits. It's a style that I really like.

Haha - yes, he's cute - and I head they are going to release a bunch of merchandise based on him :)

I haven't watched episode three yet - I'll try and get to it this week.

Finally got around to see the first episode last night (I know...).  My original impression that it started a little slow, and I was wondering where it was going, but I got over that thought quickly.  I enjoyed it, looking forward to where they take it.  With the 4th coming out on Sunday, I better hurry up and catch the next 2 by then.

I've watched all four and while it is a slow build up - it is getting really intriguing now.  I love it.

Mando is becoming an easy character to connect with.
In an Indiana Jones sort of way he seems to get beaten up a lot and rescued by others, rather than being an unbeatable killing machine. That makes him much more relatable.

Yeah that's definitely something I think.  Plus they're also showing us both a hardened edge but also an empathetic side as well.  I'm currently watching the Clone Wars and learning more about the planet Mandalore and the history of the Mandalorian Warriors and how they rebelled, which is adding to the intrigue of the character.

I'm loving the Mandalorian still - it is basically a western set in space.  Bounty hunters and the lone figure like a Clint Eastwood hero from the wild west.  It even has that slow pace of some of those old westerns - it is just a cool show.

I like it and look forward to watching it but it's not as dark as I was thinking it would be from the trailers.

And he doesn't seem hung on on "being a movie director", he's willing to do whatever he finds interesting.
