Walt Disney Doco SBS Sunday March 23

Postby ajp » Thu Mar 20, 2008 7:36 am

On Sunday Night, SBS are showing a 1 hour documentary on Walt Disney called Once Upon a Time. Here is what one TV guide describes it as:

In the middle of the 1930s, Walt Disney undertook a long journey across Europe from which he returned with hundreds of illustrated books and engravings. A treasure trove that would be a major source of inspiration for his subsequent animated features. The film relates Walt Disney's artistic journey and the joyous clash between high culture and popular culture, in which Gustave Dore, Daumier and Rembrandt play peek-a-boo with Snow White, Pinocchio and the Sleeping Beauty. With a tone and a rhythm taken from cartoons, the story unfolds as an investigation within Disney's mind itself, blending specialist interviews, animated 3D sequences, and archives, along with clips from Disney's most famous works such as Snow White, Cinderella, Fantasia, Bambi, Dumbo, etc.
2023 Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Lines - Disney Wish. Going to be awesome to be back!

Wow - what a great find. Once Upon A Time was the name of the Disney art exhibition we saw in Paris during the world tour - this must be the companion TV show! Thanks Anthony.

At 8.20pm, I turned the tv over to SBS and then promptly got sidetracked.
at 8.50pm, I said a bad word and then plonked down in front of the tv to thoroughly enjoy a full 15 minutes of this show, at which point, thanks to the dawn service I had to wake up at 4.30am for, I fell asleep and woke up as the credits were rolling - again eliciting another bad word.

I really enjoyed that 15 minutes though.
