Why so many DVD re-issues of films like A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc. and The Incredibles?

Even the Walt Disney Animation Collection DVDs sound like repackaged versions of the Disney Fables series from a few years ago!

How about some of the Disney Classics that haven't been issued over here before? I'm still waiting on Make Mine Music and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad to complete my Region 4 collection...

Hey Simon - welcome to Down Under Disneyana! You'll have to properly introduce yourself!

Yep - seems like a lot of repackaging there - I'm guessing they are re-releasing all the Pixar movies (except Toy Stories) to tie in with the new Bluray of Monsters Inc - maybe they are just looking to put together some consistency in packaging designs or something like that.

And yes - it does sound like cut down versions of the Fables series - didn't the Fables series have more than one film on them? I guess for collectors, we should have just gone out and got the Walt Disney Treasures series off Amazon - they were more comprehensive - I don't understand why they never released any more of them here - we got wave one and that was it :(

Hey Simon - welcome to Down Under Disneyana! You'll have to properly introduce yourself!
G'day Keith

I'm originally from the UK and started collecting Disneyana in the 90's. I worked in a secondhand music and video shop at the time and was amazed at the high prices we were getting on used Disney videos. When the animated classics started to appear on DVD in 1999 I decided to buy them all as they were released. I had a multi-region DVD player so I started off ordering them from the US. I first visited Australia in 2004 and was surprised at how cheap the DVDs appeared to be over here (compared to the UK). As my Region 1 and Region 2 collections were complete I started collecting the Region 4 releases. I tracked down the deleted titles and now have just about every issue of every Disney animated classic ever released on DVD. :)

My kids have all grown up watching Disney movies and are all fans of the animated and live-action "classics" (plus some of the more modern stuff) so I've also accumulated other Disney memorabilia over the years. Haven't been to Disneyland (yet) but it's on my "to do" list...

Thanks Simon, and welcome! Yep - there are plenty of collectors here too - including myself. I'm beginning again now - collecting the films on Bluray (it never ends does it?!)

If you decide to take the plunge and start planning that trip to Disneyland, there are plenty of people around here that would be happy to give you advice!

I'm also collecting the Blurays. Love the shiny slip-covers that the US editions come in!

I'm actually downsizing my movie collection at the moment (there's only so many copies of the same movie that you can store) and have started off by putting one of my Region 4 sets up for auction. I did consider selling it as a full lot but couldn't decide which versions of each movie to include (I have 4 different issues of Pocahontas, Snow White and Tarzan, for example, and 2 or 3 of most of the others) so in the end I chose one version of each and listed them all separately.

If anyone out there is looking to complete their Region 4 collection I can probably help.

You'll find them all here... I always thought the DVDs would be the "definitive" version but having seen the Bluray editions I've been forced to reconsider...

Disney releases have been few and far between lately. But here are a couple of upcoming titles.

May 19
Old Dogs (DVD)
Toy Story (DVD and Bluray)
Toy Story 2 (DVD and Bluray)

No sign of Princess and the Frog yet.

There is a Dumbo Special Edition Bluray coming soon - it has been classified by the Office and Film and Literature Classification, but no release date for Australia has been given.

According to Amazon the US release date of Princess & The Frog is Tuesday, March 16, 2010. No date given for a UK release but then the movie only came out in the cinema in the UK on February 5. In Japan the movie only went on general release today (Saturday, March 6) - three and a half months after it's US debut !!!

I'm guessing it could be a few more months before the official international releases so we'll have to settle for the US import until then... The pre-order price is pretty good (43% off the DVD and 38% off the BluRay). Is there a dudisneyana affiliate link for us to order it through...?

No - we've been advertising-free on here, so I usually click through on one of the other Disney fan sites.

If you anyone here owns a Playstation 3, be wary with ordering Disney Bluray disks from the US. Most of them are region free, however the odd Bluray from Disney is region coded (such as Bolt). It doesn't matter if your player is region free, but for those of us with the Playstation3, we must be careful as there is no region hack for it (it is classed as a game console, not a Bluray player and hence doesn't come under the ACCC ruling about regions).

I always check this site before buying foreign Blurays to ensure region compatibility:
http://bluray.liesinc.net/

But I note that they haven't listed Princess and the Frog there yet - it should appear shortly.

The first PAL version I've seen advertised of Princess and the Frog is now available for pre-order from Amazon.de
"Küss den Frosch" is released on Disney DVD and BluRay on Thursday, April 15. Language tracks are in German, English, Italian and Turkish.
