Bridge to Terabithia

Postby Gerard » Wed May 02, 2007 9:20 pm

I have just come from the First Public screening of Bridge to Terabithia in Australia, at the Auburn Reading Cinema (the manager invited Library Staff from council and as I am in the same Dept I got to go)

It is a truly beautiful movie, but be warn you, you will need a few tissues.
I would recommend it for children over 10 as it also deals with a few heavy themes such as death and faith. But it deals with these themes very well.

So far it’s the best thing I have seen this year.

I told you all it was sad and not at all a happy journey into a fantasy world!

Eloise (11) and I went to see this today. I was glad she read the book before we went as she handled the movie much better than I think she would have otherwise. The scenes which I was worried about had my crying and i was well aware of what was happening. Its a bit like My Girl - you know someones gonna die but you can't prepare yourself.

My Mum who knew nothing about the storyline had to sit until the end of the credits so no-one would see her crying!

My son (8) now wants to see it but is too young to read the book by himself so guess what I get to start reading aloud tomorrow night!

I'll be going to see this movie Thursday night with friends.
Sounds like I better pack some tissues and go easy on the mascara - or take my sunnies into the cinema 8) -Maybe I better take the whole box - one of my friends tears up at traffic lights.

I'm taking the kids to see Shrek 3 next week in the holidays. Can't wait for that one.

Change of plans... I wasn't able to go Thursday night so I went to see Terabithia this afternoon.

For starters, I had the smallest cinema I have ever seen ( 4 rows of seats) but thankfully the usual sized screen. and the entire thing to myself... ( not counting the attendant) :)

What an amazing movie.

I went to the movie, not having read so much as one proper review or the book for that matter, so I had no preconceived ideas ( other than someone dying) and I was blown away by this tale.

And yes, I cried... so much in fact that I dislodged a contact lens and had to watch the last 15 minutes with one eye when I was unable to rectify it in the dark... Having someone important just disappear is devastating.

This ode to the vivid imagination was a real treat. And Terabithia seemed so familiar to me in a way....

"Close your eyes and keep your mind wide open" possibly the best line in the movie is almost exactly what I told someone recently....

And now I have to see if I can find that soundtrack somewhere.....

If you haven't seen it yet, go see it.... and take your imagination with you. :D ( and possibly some tissues)

I have not seen Shrek 3 but Peter took the kids and he said it was bad. Nowhere near the standard of the other 2.

My favourite is the first one. The second one was good too. But you are the second person today telling me that the 3rd isn't on a par. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Did you see the trailer for Transformers when you went to see Terabithia?

Now that looks wicked! 8)

With Speilberg at the helm it should be worth watching I think.

Oooh yeah - I'll be catching this when it comes out. It is directed by Michael Bay who did films like The Rock and The Island (and Pearl Harbor...which was big on action and visuals, but an awful love story...)

I really enjoyed The Island with Ewan McGregor and Scarlet Johansson (mmm...Scarlet Johansson...) - it was highly underrated.

So I am looking forward to Transformers, it'll be huge :)

 This is a bit disturbing...

I don't know when I'll get to see Transformers - this coming weekend is the Disney meeting, the following week I'm off to Melbourne for the Pixar exhibit, and the week after that is Disney on Ice - three Disney weekends in a row! (Get a life Keith!)
