Star Wars Episode IX

News coming out of Hollywood this morning is that Disney has parted ways with Colin Trevorrow who was signed to direct Star Wars Episode IX.

Trevorrow is probably best known to us for directing the Jurassic World reboot movie a couple of years ago.  While that was a fun action movie - it was very thin on plot and high on action.  I know that there was concern by Star Wars fans when he was first announced that he didn't have a good grasp of character development and story - so maybe this is something Disney have identified too.

Anyway - here is the news story over at The Daily Mail:

I haven't read too many comments that are upset by this news. I actually didn't mind Jurassic World though, it was meant to be people being chased by dinosaurs rather than a cerebral thought provoking movie.

But i guess Star Wars movies are dissected to the Nth degree so it needs something more than flash to be a success.

I'm going to be trying to avoid spoilers like crazy for this one so i hope they are as good with their advertising as they were for the last one.

Star Wars was never something I was interested in but with all the new lands at the parks I've decided it's time to get on board.  I've started watching Episode 1 and so far so good - my brother did say to skip Eps 1-3 so I'm thinking if I'm enjoying this one then it can only get better when I hit the original 3.  Hopefully by the time Ep 9 hits the cinemas I'll be lined up with other Star Wars fans.

The order to watch them in is a bit contentious. It makes sense to watch them in number order but you will miss out on the surprise that comes in 6 (although it is hardly a spoiler these days).

As someone who watched them avidly when they first came out I am a fan of 4 - 6 ahead of 1 - 3 and my only concern in you watching them in number order would be the big difference in the quality of the effects. Just keep in mind when watching 4 - 6 exactly when they were made.

My concern for anyone watching them for the first time starting at movie 1-3 is that they are bad movies and you don't continue watching to 4-6 which are way better and simpler stories.

Oh ok, I'll stop watching in order.  I did ask a couple of friends and they weren't too concerned with the order, however one did mention the effects as well and my brother said to skip the first 3 all together.  Funny enough I actually enjoyed the first one even though people say they're not as good.  I did have some trouble following the story at times but I enjoyed the characters. Having heard enough over the years I found many names familiar and enjoyed seeing where everyone came from, especially C3PO & R2D2. I'm not usually a Sci-Fi or Special FX person so hopefully it won't worry me.  As I'm going away with work this week I probably won't have time to watch the second so will watch 4-6 when I return and then 2 & 3.

By the way, my brother-in-law has always joked about naming his son Luke deliberately for the saying :)

Oh - if you've started with the first one, you might as well continue! :)

Yes, I agree with Keith, if you've started then continue on with 2 and 3 otherwise it will get a bit confusing.

I have to ask...have you seen the Indiana Jones movies :-)

I'm pretty sure I saw a fair bit of one when my brother lived with me if that counts?

I am shocked!!  Get yourself to a video shop and get a copy of the three Indiana Jones movies (yes, there are only three) and be prepared to have your universe rocked!

I'm also trying to stay away from spoilers.... but its tough when my nephews are actually bigger  fans than I am ( which is saying something) There isn't a character that they dont know every detail of... I've done a good job as the bad influence aunty.  I took  them to see Ep 8 and it was as interesting watching them as it was the screen.  I hope to take them to Orlando one day to show them the new Starwars areas ( and Nasa)

As far as the new episode goes, its looking really good.  I hope I like it as much as the last one.  Personally I prefer to watch them chronologically so the story flows, but I love all of them ( yes, even Jar Jar Binks) so perhaps I'm not as critical as I could be.

It is not long to go now...!!!

Oh - and we haven't even started to talk about the next trilogy they announced a couple of weeks ago - of course, there isn't much to discuss yet as we don't know what it is about!

With my trip I still haven't got past Ep 1 so will try to watch them all first.  Will avoid any spoilers on this site until I get to it.

If you've watched episode one then you'll be able to give us your opinion on Jar Jar Binks. :-)
