The Lone Ranger

Postby KeithS » Thu Oct 04, 2012 7:09 pm

Disney have released the first trailer of their upcoming The Lone Ranger movie starring Johnny Depp. Not sure what to think of this yet, it is more of a visual trailer than anything else.

Up until now, I thought the Lone Ranger trailers haven't been that great - but that changes now with the newest trailer released that highlights the storyline, and I have to say, it looks awesome!

Now that they have shown some story, I'm really keen to see this film. Check out the trailer below:

I'm still undecided about this movie.... I'm having trouble seeing young Johnny as anything but Jack....

The Lone Ranger opens worldwide this weekend. It'll be interesting to see what sort of numbers this pulls in the US - that will decide whether it becomes a franchise or not - we should know on Monday...

Can Johnny Depp continue his run of $1billion Disney movies or will this come crashing to the ground, John Carter-style?

Has anyone seen this yet?

Seems like the critics hate it, but most fan reviews are favourable.

I enjoyed it. I think the story was pretty good but i just felt their was a little too much humor in it to the point of being off putting. Thats my only gripe. I hope the go on to make a trilogy as it really fely like it was only a set up for the 'real' story.

Thanks for the review.

We are having a club trip down here in Sydney to see it in a couple of weeks - I can't wait!

Did you all get to see The Lone Ranger at Auburn last night? Sorry I couldn't make it, the real world is getting in the way again and I had a matter to attend to in the City linked to my upcoming trip overseas.

Well, what does everybody think of the film?

I thought it was a very good movie. I guess I was surprised by the level of violence in it for a Disney-branded movie - not that I minded, but I can imagine people would have thought it safe to take kids to, especially given the amount of Lone Ranger branded toy merchandise there is which seems to make it appear to be a family film.

The story was great and the train chase finale was brilliant - one of the great movie action sequences ever!

I didn't mind the humour throughout - I think they probably put it in there to offset some of the darker themes.

I'm glad also that it works as a stand alone movie - yes, they could have expanded it into a franchise had it succeeded at the box office - but that won't happen now and it doesn't matter as the film works well by itself.

I really enjoyed it - there were some parts that got a bit confusing and I agree about the violence (I had to put my had over my eyes in one part) but it was full of twists and humorous!

I finally got to see this movie on Christmas Day and actually really enjoyed it.

It was a bit out there and very long, and I still saw Captn Jack in every shot of Johnny Depp, but still enjoyed the whole thing.

Yep - it is definitely not the worst movie out there. It is weird how some movies succeed while others fail at the box office for no obvious reasons!
