Oz the Great and Powerful

Postby KeithS » Thu Jul 05, 2012 8:41 am

Disney have released the first teaser poster for next year's "Oz, The Great and Powerful", which is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz.

What I don't understand is that in this movie, the wizard's name is "Oz" - whereas I thought that the land was called Oz. I assume the movie will explain all! Maybe the land gets named after the wizard? Time will tell (or maybe one of you guys know more?)

Anyway, the poster looks pretty cool:

Wiki says

"When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis) Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well."

Thanks Brizmarc it makes a bit more sense now.

Although I have to admit, I have no excitement for this movie but I'm willing to be surprised by it when it comes out. It could be epic...or rubbish - the first trailer should be here very soon, so let's hope it can sell this fantasy.

Trailer here http://disney.go.com/thewizard/?cmp=NLC ... eatM|#main

Its looks like the editing has some way to go but it looks pretty good. Very Alice in wonderland.

its still a LONG way off but I am super excited for it. This will be a big one for sure. I hope they dont overdo the CG and put story on back burner.

Alice in wonderland sits at 11 for highest grossing film of all time. I think this might pip it. OZ os a story that transends all generations as does alice and I think this will do the same or better. Lets hope they dont "harry potterise" or "Lord of the ringise" the final scenes with a generic battle as they did with alice.

So what did we all think? After reading reviews and others comments I went in not expecting alot. In the end it was not what I expected but I still LOVED it. My wife and I thought it was great and I know people critisized James Franco but I loved him as OZ. I cant wait for the bluray.
