Unfortunately it has bombed big time in the US. It scored less than $10 million on opening day including midnight screenings. That is less than what Prince of Persia managed to pull.

It is getting good word of mouth from people who went and saw it however, so that may end up being the saviour for Disney. It would appear that the movie is good (as Gerard has already told us) and that the marketing was just terrible.

We saw it on the weekend, and it was enjoyable. I can't put it into a classic status, but it was better and had a deeper story than I thought it was going to have. It's disappointing that it is bombing, because it is better than that. Worth seeing it if you have not yet or aren't planning to. We saw it in 3d and if you choose not to, I don't think you'll lose anything.

It scored just on $30 million in the US this weekend - opening second behind The Lorax which picked up $39 in its second weekend.

The positive thing for Disney though is to hope that it gets better box office takings as the week progresses - perhaps the result of social media word of mouth. Let's see how it goes next weekend.

It has a bit of an Avatar feel to it. I couldn't help thinking about the new Avatar land thingy they're talking about, and how they could fit something John Carter in there.
