yep, it really does look great... just in that tiny snippet you can see the folklore seamlessly meshed into the scenery. Really looking forward to seeing something new from Pixar.

Me too - we've had two straight years of sequels - and it doesn't matter how good or bad they are, I live for Pixar's original new movies.

Is it just me (won't be disappointed if it is), or does PIXAR still struggle with the human form? The details and the motion in this clip are extraordinary. Even the form of the girl down to her hair is just breathtaking, then when she turned around and showed her face it was a little bit of a let down. She seemed a little plasticy. Compare it with the details and form of the horse. I don't know, I don't intend or want to be picky, but I would have thought that they would have spent some time improving their human features. Maybe I'll go an watch it again ....

I kind of thought that initially too ajp, she does look a little 'plastic-y', but then I thought about how I'd go about drawing a child from that era and place. First thing I came up with was she'd be very very pale, which would make her eyes stand out even more. Then I went back and watched the clip again, and realised that despite her apparent cartoony features in some shots, when she was shooting that bow, her face became filled with expression and there is no doubting what she is feeling at the time. I think when we see this as a whole, we will again forget that we're watching an animation and just perhaps, her look is contrived rather than a struggle to define the era on a childs face.

Just my 2 bob :)

I was also wondering what role the bear plays? does she become the bear or something ? seeing as it was originally the bear and the bow. I can't remember reading actual storyline about this.

I do agree with this and I noticed this too. I thought the expression was well made and when I went back and watched it again, it is something that struck me.

Regarding Pixar's human characters not looking human enough...here's an article on the uncanny valley. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley

Basically the idea is that we are more likely to accept a character who is obviously not human as human than one who is 99.9% human but is wrong in some indefinable way.

I just like good animation weather its made to look as human as possible or not. I really liked the animation of a Christmas Carrol, I think thats a level of "Real" thats perfect. Not everything needs to be like that though.
