Wreck-It Ralph

Postby KeithS » Tue Jun 14, 2011 7:04 pm

Hello everyone. Disney have today released a press release with regard to their 52nd animated feature film. Originally titled "Reboot Ralph", this movie has now been renamed "Wreck-it Ralph" and I for one am excited by the premise - after all, it is about an old video game character trying to be a hero in the modern video game world :D

If you've ever played an old Commodore 64 game like Jumpman, Miner 2049er, or Loderunner, you know the sort of pixellated character that Ralph is.

Anyway - here is the press release!

WALT DISNEY ANIMATION STUDIOS INTRODUCES WILDLY FUNNY NEW CG COMEDY ADVENTURE “WRECK-IT RALPH”

Directed by Emmy® Winner Rich Moore, Hilarious and Wildly Imaginative Animated Movie to Feature the Voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch

BURBANK, Calif. (June 13, 2011) – Some of us are born to be bad, but that doesn’t mean we have to like it. Walt Disney Animation Studios and Emmy®-winning director Rich Moore (TV’s “The Simpsons,” “Futurama”) take moviegoers on a hilarious, video-game-hopping journey in “Wreck-It Ralph,” the story of an arcade game Bad Guy determined to prove he can be a Good Guy. Produced by Clark Spencer (“Lilo & Stitch,” “Bolt”) and featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, the CG comedy adventure will hit theaters on Nov. 2, 2012, and will be presented in Disney Digital 3D™ in select theaters.

Says Moore, “I love the idea of a very simple 8-bit video game character struggling with the complex question: ‘isn't there more to life than the role I've been assigned?’ In his quest for the answer, we journey with our hero through three visually distinct video game worlds. It's unlike anything anyone's seen before, and I'm thrilled to be to creating it here at Walt Disney Animation Studios.”

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything, and accidently unleashes a deadly enemy that threatens every game in the arcade. Ralph’s only hope? Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Silverman), a young troublemaking “glitch” from a candy-coated cart racing game who might just be the one to teach Ralph what it means to be a Good Guy. But will he realize he is good enough to become a hero before it’s “Game Over” for the entire arcade?

Looks interesting. The stupid dance music in the trailer doesnt help set a mood but I think it could be fun. Its not exactly what I think of as "Disney animated classic" but I guess thats what kids want these days.

I saw wreck it Ralph tonight, anyone else seen it yet?

It didn't appeal to me but I didn't expect it too - Angus however thought it was fantastic!

I think you need to be a gamer to truly appreciate it

We went to the City on New Year's Eve to see it, but they were only showing the Closed Caption/Audio Descriptive version on the day at George St (go figure!!!) So we didn't bother - hopefully we'll catch it soon.

I finally saw it last night and did enjoy it - but I am a gamer.

I thought the story was pretty cool, although I was getting a bit bored when they spent too much time in Sugar Rush - the pink was getting on my nerves. But I did like all the characters - I thought from the trailer that Vanellope would annoy me, but in the end, I liked her!

Not a classic, but a good tale and a it of fun. Interestingly, it was the first movie I'd seen in a long time that the whole audience applauded at the end! So I guess they liked it :)

By the way, the short prior to the movie commencing is called Paperman, and I thought it was fantastic.

I don't get the whole applauding at movies thing. But I will say I did have the urge after seeing Les Mis. Still didn't do it though.
