Disney to film new 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie

What do you think of this announcement today? A prequel to the original 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

I guess the premise sounds okay, but I'm a little worried that it is being directed by McG - a former music video director who's film credits include those wonderful art-house movies: Charlie's Angels and Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle...

Well - the news came out this morning that this film has just been cancelled - the first major decision by the new Disney Studios boss.

I suppose we'll never know if this was a good decision, but on the surface it seems like it was. No doubt they had their reasons.

I liked the premise of a prequel, but I really disliked that McG was the director and I thought Will Smith as Captain Nemo was a nightmare decision. I think the movie would have bombed big-time. I hope now they keep the idea alive, but with an eye on the past - not turn it into a Wild Wild West CG (supposed) comedy music video like McG and Will Smith would have done!

Looks like this film has had the defibrillator applied and is back on! Maybe they spent so much on those sets in Mexico, they just had to make a 20,000 Leagues movie.

The most exciting thing from my perspective is that they've attached David Fincher as Director to this movie. I've always enjoyed his films though I have to admit that they aren't very Disney-like! His credits include:
Seven
The Game
Zodiac
Fight Club

So I would expect 20,000 Leagues to be much darker than the cancelled McG version (who's credits included the two the Charlie's Angels movies, and numerous music videos...)
