Pirates 5 (possible spoilers)

Postby calisota » Wed May 24, 2017 6:09 pm

I just got back from seeing it.

A bit disappointed really.

I loved the first one but there seemed to be a decline in the subsequent one and 5 hasn't helped to stop that.

If you just want a visual spectacular then it's worth seeing, the effects are amazing but the story is convoluted and unsatisfying  The set pieces are breath taking at times but the come so thick and fast that there is no time to figure out what is actually happening or give you much of a chance to care. The new heroine could have been so interesting and a real foil but the whole movie just swept along so fast that there was no opportunity.

That's a shame - I haven't seen it yet but I agree with the decline in these films.  They seem to want to make them overly complicated.  I loved the first and kind of wish they hadn't gone any further!

Seems like the box office and critics are agreeing with me...sadly.

In franchises like this there seems to be a need to "up the stakes" each movie and here are only so many mythical sea demons they can use. Maybe if they had gone for a more human antagonist.

I loved it :)

I've forgiven Johnny for the dog debarkle ( see what I did there) and while he did look like he was drunk most of the time ( which he might have been) I really enjoyed the story.
Millie enjoyed it too but did whinge as she was leaving the cinema to the tune of 'I could have been in that movie'... ( she got a casting call for an extra but had to sit an exam on the day)
I hope they do another one now... I wasn't sure until I saw the ending.
