Lauren’s Shanghai trip

Postby Lauren05 » Wed Oct 18, 2017 11:50 pm

Hi all. Just a quick check-in. Just back to the hotel after our 2nd day at Shanghai Disneyland. Exhausted but have had an amazing 2 days. Near perfect weather, low crowds and almost perfect behaviour. Only had know off merchandise sales pitches twice and just got 2 taxi offers as we were walking out. I’ll be home next week so I’ll try to post more then.
P.s. this site is not actually blocked in China! Woo!

Good to know that the Chinese censors like us, it's reassuring in a funny sort of way. :-)

Looking forward to hearing your opinions on the place and how they tally with mine and Keith's.

Thanks for updating us Lauren - love live reports from the Parks.

Yes - can't wait to hear how your trip aligns with Greg's and mine.  How is the Toy Story Land construction coming along?

Ok, sorry i've been so slack, but here's part 1 of my report....

After spending the weekend in Singapore, we had a midday flight to Shanghai on the Monday.  We arrived as scheduled at 6pm and after clearing immigration and customs and waiting in a taxi queue almost as long as the immigration queue we finally arrived at the Toy Story Hotel.  I luckily had translated the hotel address, but even still the driver seemed a bit confused.  We got slightly ripped off as he stopped his meter at 75RMB while stopped at the traffic lights waiting to turn into the driveway, and when we arrived told us 100RMB.  He actually wouldn’t unlock the doors until we had handed over the money too!
We checked in and purchased our park tickets.  If you buy your tickets at the hotel you’re able to enter through the Disneytown entrance at all times, which is kinda handy.
We grabbed a bite to eat from the Sunnyside Cafe and activated our data SIMS we bought before we arrived.  Thanks to a recommendation from TDR Explorer, we purchased a data only sim for Hong Kong and Mainland China.  Because it’s a Hong Kong SIM card, there was no Chines internet firewall to deal with.  I was a little sceptical even though I had read a few reviews, but am happy to report they worked amazingly well.  $30 for 2GB was pretty much perfect for our 6 days in China.
2 Days at Disneyland to come!

That is good to know. I bought my sim at the airport in Shanghai so I ran into the firewall issue.

now THATS handy to know ... I had read that on TDR Explorer as well and as HKDL is my next park was wondering how it fared with the firewall.    Awesome tip :)

That taxi price is good - we paid RMB120 inbound and RMB150 back to the airport.  Our hotel told us it would be about RMB150 for the return trip including the tolls. Maybe that extra money was just the toll fee if you came via the motorway?
