Postby KeithS » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:52 am

Thought I might as well indulge myself and begin a thread for our upcoming trip to Disneyland in June.

Here is a basic itinerary of our journey.

3 June - Depart Sydney for LAX and then straight to San Francisco. Hire car.
4 June - Visit Walt Disney Family Museum in SF (we booked the tickets yesterday - woohoo!)
5 June - SF
6 June - Drive to Monteray/Carmel and day trip in local area. Stay the night in Carmel.
7 June - Drive down Highway 1 to Hearst Castle (tickets booked!) and then stay the night in Pismo Beach
8 June - Drive down Highway 1 to Santa Barbara.
9 June - Drive to LA - visit Disney soda fountain then drop off car at airport. Get bus to Anaheim. Disneyland
10 June - Disneyland - Fantasmic Dessert Package
11 June - DCA (book World of Color picnic)
12 June - Adventures by Disney Lights Camera Magic tour of Walt Disney Studios and Hollywood.
13 June - DCA (World of Color)
14 June - Disneyland
15 June - DCA reopening!
16 June - DCA/Disneyland (depending on crowds at DCA!)
17 June - Half day Disneyland - Fly home.

Of course, now I just need to convince Disney to give Della and myself a media pass for the Thursday 14 June when DCA is closed for the public, that way I'll be able to report back exclusively to our Australian audience on the festivities!

Sounds good Keith. You will love the museum, just don't cut your time short, take as much time as you can get away with. And try to avoid dropping a tear in the final room, bet you can't.
then stay the night in Pismo Beach
Don't you have to turn left at Albuquerque to go here?

I rang Adventures by Disney this morning and was able to purchase the "Lights...Cameras...Magic..." day tour for Tuesday 12 June.

We were originally hoping to get it for Thursday 14 June (the day DCA is closed for the media event) but it wasn't available, so Tuesday it is. We'll go to Disneyland on Thursday (although it is a short day due to Grad Night).

From their website, the itinerary for the Light...Cameras...Magic... tour is:
Meet in the lobby of the Grand California Hotel at 8am.
From there, you'll embark on a tour of the following sites:

The Hollywood & Highland Center or Grauman's Chinese Theater (based on tour date)
Visit the Hollywood & Highland Center, the home of the Academy Awards, OR Grauman's Chinese Theatre, best known for its extensive collection of celebrity footprints and handprints. Both are located on vibrant Hollywood Boulevard.

Hollywood's Famed Sunset Strip
Catch a glimpse of such famous spots as Chateau Marmont and Whisky a Go Go.

Beverly Hills' Famed Rodeo Drive
Explore Beverly Hills' world-famous shopping destination, known for its haute couture boutiques.

Farmers Market & The Grove
Immerse yourself in the original Farmers Market at Third & Fairfax where you'll enjoy great shopping and an amazing array of restaurants – all in an authentic atmosphere which offers family fun, and frequent star spotting! And just a short trolley ride away is the fabulous open-air shopping center, The Grove.

The Walt Disney Studios
Go behind the scenes on an exclusive tour of The Walt Disney Studios — which is both a working studio AND the headquarters of The Walt Disney Company — followed by a special reception in Legends Plaza, where Disney's many gifted animators, Imagineers, songwriters, actors and business leaders as have been honored. This is truly an exclusive experience that's only available to the public on the rarest of occasions!

The tour returns to Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at approximately 7:00 p.m.

That's a great one day Hollywood one day trip. Much better than looking at the "stars homes" which seems to be mandatory on every other trip

I thought that too - even without the Disney portion, it is still a good trip, the studios is icing on the cake!

I was very excited ringing up this morning. The girl at Adventure by Disney I spoke to (Sue was her name) was brilliant! We had a lot of laughs and she seemed like a great Disney fan and she made booking really easy.

The holiday feels a lot more real now that I've been speaking to people over there. Next week I ring up to book the Fantasmic dessert package and then that'll be it - just count down the remaining 36 sleeps!

Don't you have to turn left at Albuquerque to go here?
If we had a clapping mickey I would put one right here. Are we the only two to get the reference?

As a kid I wondered if those two places actually existed, they sounded so made up.
