I'm curious what they'll be called. Emily and I are sitting here now speculating. We reckon one could be called Wish (Wishes) but can't come up with a second.
Congratulations Anthony!!! You and Emily get a gold star for your 2016 prediction!!!
Disney Wish it is - and Rapunzel is hanging off the stern painting the name.

I keep an eye on the Meyer-Werft shipyard webcam every week.  They update the photos weekly and I've been watching it since Disney Dream began construction.  I can wait to see them begin building Disney Wish - I'm guessing construction will begin late this year.

I saw a schedule recently and they're currently building NCL I think.  The Wish was slated for Jan I think.

Ros and I are booked on the Wish sailing Feb 6 next year. So looking forward to it, we’re sailing with friends we met when we sailed on the Fantasy in 2012. \8-/

Thanks Keith, we’re looking forward to the trip so much.

Didn’t really leave here, just a hiatus for no reason other than I blinked and years had passed.

And now we know the name of the second new ship - let's welcome the Disney Treasure and enjoy watching it also being built over in Germany :)

Wow - so Disney are buying the Global Dream after all!

I saw rumours of this quite a few weeks ago when the media first started talking about the possibility of the Global Dream being scrapped as the buyer had gone bankrupt during Covid and no one else wanted a ship of this capacity.
The Global Dream world have become the world's largest cruise ship by capacity - having a 9,000 passenger capacity.

Now Disney have purchased the 70% completed vessel (at a massive discount I'm sure - it was a fire sale after all) - and have announced they'll fit it out for 6,000 passengers and use it on non-US itineraries (and from that, I'm guessing Asia).

More details below including a rendering of the new vessel.
https://disneycruiselineblog.com/2022/1 ... l-in-2025/

I'm interested to see how this plays out - it is a big ship and I wonder if it'll retain a casino - given it is likely to be Asia-based and gambling is very much a cultural thing there. Or will Disney stick to their model of no casinos and first class service.

Time will tell but it is an interesting development!

Hmmm, a casino huh? Wonder how much they pay?

Seriously though, can't imagine being trapped on a ship with 9,000 other passengers, even 6,000 feels like too many.

The casino is one of the things that I was also wondering about. I'd bet they won't include a Casino. It would damage the Disney Cruise Line brand I feel.

Yes - now that Iger is back, I figure there will be no casino - but when I initially wrote about the casino - I really thought Chapek might keep it given it is a licence to print money and that is what his focus is.

I wonder if the deal to buy it would have been scrapped if Iger had come back before the cruise ship acquisition announcement...

Is Iger not a fan of cruise ships?
