Ooh, ooh I can provide a further update. The cabanas that he talks about are well on the way. The structures are all in place and some even have some of the cladding and roofing finished too. The new water slide thingy is all but done and is in place behind the Pelican bar he mentioned. Great spot too, kids can play on the water slides while mum and dad can sip on a cocktail or a bud light lime (oops gave a little away then hehe). The massage cabanas on Serenity Bay are finished, and I think they were operational, but I can remember for sure. Photos are on my blog thingy on Cruising Day 7. Photo img_8464 is the water slides and img_8466 is the cabanas.

This may not be an enhancement, in fact I think it is the complete opposite.

I may have been living under a rock for a while, but I have only recently learnt that the Flying Dutchman is no longer a part of the Castaway Cay landscape. This was an icon and was a perfect fit with the whole island and Pirate theme that DCL use. We are going to miss it when we are there in April, but are thankful that we were able to see it and have photos of it.

It was sail-able ...yes?

could it be that it was relocated to be in the movie filmed in Hawaii?

I really have no idea, but wondered if it were the same boat...

Not sailable, really just half a ship, from the back it was clearly a set

It was a set, it was just a shell built on top of a barge, as I read recently. The timberwork of the shell was rotting as a result of being exposed to the elements, and apparently Disney decided it wasn't worth it so took it away and scrapped it. Shame really, but I suppose these things happen.

Gee that long ago? I have been living under a rock. It is unfortunate that it was gone, I think you would have really enjoyed seeing it and the detail in it.

Castaway Cay got hit by the eye of hurricane Sandy on Saturday - damage to the island is still to be assessed:
