New section in the forum and potential site upgrade.

Postby calisota » Wed May 03, 2006 1:21 pm

Just a quick note to let you know about a couple of things, it's a bad week work wise unfortunately so no major posts from me until the weekend.

I have just created a new section in the forum called "scrapbooking" (which can be changed if I have the terminology wrong) for the benefit of our two scrapbooking members, Lisa and Sandie.

I'm also planning a bit of an overhaul to the site as a whole now that it's been here for almost a year. It should introduce a bit more interactivity and a few more options. I'll let you know more as work progresses.

Just before I go to bed (yeah I know its 4 o'clock but I do shift work :( ) I thought that maybe I should throw it open to suggestions, ideas or wants for a revamped site. I don't mean the forum, I mean the actual site.

Okay, new web site is up and running!

I've been up since about 4.30 this morning working on it and I'm pretty happy with what there is to show so far it's a somewhat different look and layout but after a year a change is always a good thing. You can click on the logo at the top of the forum to get taken to the front page.

The poll is just the first thing that came to mind so I'm looking for suggestions on another one.

The upcoming Disney events calendar currently has the 2 club meetings in it (including todays) but I was thinking that it could probably hold all sorts of significant Disney dates if anyone has any idea of where I could get some.

The last 5 items posted in the Disney News section now show up on the front page so you can just click on the one you're interested in to see the whole article or click the News link to see everything that's been posted.

There are a few more ideas that I have to add but I'll hold off and see if anyone else has something that they'd like to see.

Have a look, be critical and let me know what you think.

The next step is to try and tie the forum and gallery look into the new rest of the site.

Hey Greg, this new site is great. Just a question with the Poll on the homepage - I can't seem to get it to work and would be interested if other people have the same problem.

I keep getting a message saying that Cookies have to be enabled, yet they are active in my browser. I tried it on both Firefox (my usual browser) and IE7.

Is anyone else having that problem?

Oh yeah, I also had a quick look in the Scrapbooking forum and quickly ran away screaming - all that talk of embellishments and jollees and beads and stuff - there should be a warning for men to enter only that their own risk...:D

Hmmm, interesting. It worked straight up for me in firefox so I never even thought of testing it in another browser. I checked the overall look and most other things in IE and Opera but not the poll.

I just tried it in both of the other browsers and got the same message so I clicked on continue, which took me back to the main page and then I clicked on vote again and it worked.

Okay, been searching for solutions and have made some alterations to the coding for the poll. It should work now but unfortunately I can't tell because it was working for me anyway. If anyone or everyone can test it and tell me if it works for them I'd appreciate it.

Good idea, I might just do that. :D

Here's a crazy thought I've just had for an addition to the site.

Anyone familiar with wiki's? How about a Disney wiki?

If you can send it to me in pdf format then I'm sure that I can find a place for it.

It is like a wookie in Star Wars, but with a higher pitched voice...(wow, my worse joke ever! :P)

Actually, in this context, wiki is short for wikipedia. A wikipedia is a collaborative encylclopedia, where the readers are able to write, edit and update articles in a fast and simple manner - hence everyone contributes and over time, the encyclopedia expands. (wiki is Hawaiian for fast)

Wikis can be great as long as you don't get people spoiling them with fake articles and data.

Okay Lisa, so you throw down the gauntlet and I think "Right, I am going straight back into the scrapbooking forum and will write something clever and informed about scrapbooking." So I head on over there, and what do I get? I get this : "Is a Cri Cut machine like a sizzix?" !!!!!

aaarrrggggghhhhhhhhhhh
"Run for your life Keith!"

Greg, help, you have to do something - they're not even speaking English :)

What a crack-up! Scrapbooking isn't at all technical I seem to remember reading somewhere....

And it is english - in a fashion - it all come from the States so its some of their 'speak'. All you have to do is ask and we will gladly explain the intricate details of Jolees, embellishments, fibres and sizzix machines.

... and the wiki sounds a bit tricky.... now the Wookie I understand.

- Lisa.
