2007 Club Meetings

Postby WayneG » Thu Dec 28, 2006 10:02 am

Information on club meetings will be released in early January by snail mail to all our members and on the web site. What would you like to have included in our club meetings?
I would like to get some feedback from our readers.

Hello Wayne - I'm looking forward to next years meetings as always :)

I was throwing ideas around with Della about the meetings and what previous ones we have liked.

We always enjoy guest speakers, but we know that these are hard to come by in this country.

We also have enjoyed the charity auction nights that have been run in the past - they always had good attendance and were great fun (and a good cause too).

We thought about having a collections night, where people can bring in a few of their favourite Disney collectibles.

This year sees the "Meet the Robinsons" released, which deals with life in the future - so we could have a future themed night, or maybe just talk about what Disney will be like in the future (what rides will still be in DL, what will go, what should go, where should new parks be built, what sort of new parks, what could be improved to existing parks etc.)

Pirates 3 is also coming - but haven't we done something pirate related already... :) - I think we can ignore that except maybe have a club outing to see it.

I would be interested to know other member's views on daytime vs night time meetings. I prefer the night meetings over the day ones (except our mid-winter meeting when the hall is too cold at night!) The night ones seem to get better attendance as some people work Saturdays etc.

I'm sure there are other members reading this with opinions (Sandie, Gerard, Julie!) - come on folks, this is an important topic!

I have been going to ask when the meeting info for 07 was going to be available for a while now, so this is perfect.

As I will be much closer, and the trip relatively inexpensive from the Sunshine Coast (in comparison to the trip from Horsham) I have plans to make it to more of the meetings this next year. So I thought I would put my 20 cents in too.

First off, I had such a great time at the Pirates meeting, I would be very much in favour of dress up opportunities. The chatter on here before the event was priceless and the meeting itself was a hoot. Make it fancy dress and I'm there.

Keith and Della had some great ideas - the future theme to coincide with the release of 'Meet the Robinsons' sounds great. As is the collections night idea.

How about a tie in to the new submarine ride ( like a Nemo night) or something to do with major events happening at the time in the parks? or perhaps just focus on one of the parks not in the US - particularly Tokyo seeing as it is the next club trip planned ( perhaps later in the year?) it would be easy to tie in costumes to any of those too.

I know that I would have loved to have made it to the Scrapping meeting, so, selfishly, I'd like to see another one of those. And Sandie could bring that brilliant cricut :)

You may have done this before, but what about a trip photo night. A bit like an old fashioned slide night - with popcorn, jaffas etc...... digital shots would be pretty easy to load and film photos could be scanned.

hope some of this is useful.......

Yay! More Mushu in 2007!

You missed our last meeting :D But I would like to see some historical photos - maybe from people's trips in the 1980s etc - maybe even then and now photos. I would have loved to have seen the Peoplemover or Rocket Rods before the track became overgrown and rusty. Or the skyway etc. Our club members must have some great photos. And Della even has a Disneyland guide map from 1983 - it is awesome to see it because it was during the Fantasyland rebuild - must be a collectors item now. I love historical stuff.

Night meetings work heaps better for me to, with sport and birthday parties most Saturdays are a lost cause. :(

Theme nights are fun, so are game nights (you know I could invent another one!)

The auctions are excellent but I know Wayne has to work hard to get items.

If you have a "theme parks of the past" night you could write attraction names on slips of paper and each person pulls one out of a box and has to talk about their memories or knowledge of it. I know this is easier for those who have visited but most people in the club have an idea of the attractions just from being at teh meetings.

What about a trip planning night? We could all share our vast planning knowledge and everyone can plan virtual trips.

Hi Sandie - Happy New Year - we haven't seen you around for a few days :)

I like the trip planning idea too - we could have tables set up by destination (Disneyland, Tokyo, Cruise Line etc.) and you sit at the table of your next planned trip and talk to others to get ideas. Maybe get a guest speaker from Parks and Resorts or a travel agency. I like the virtual trip idea too - you could design a super wish trip! (but haven't we already been on that back in September :P )

I can only imagine - I'd donate more stuff, but my collection is not big enough yet to start giving things away :)
so are game nights (you know I could invent another one!)
Could we have a Princess one? Haha  (Just kidding :P )

Happy New Year everybody!

Jim and I think that a Haunted Mansion and Halloween themed meeting for October would be a lot of fun. It could focus on the Mansion itself, the original story, then lead onto the Nightmare before Christmas, and finish with a Halloween celebration. It could be optional fancy dress, show and tell your favourite items and stories of the ride, and we could include a mini auction of Haunted or Halloween themed items. We think that it would appeal to adults and kids and be a fun night that we all could look foward to.

Julie, this is a gold star idea :D

We can have candy give aways, and I guess there is plenty of scope for another Sandie exclusive Halloween/Haunted Mansion game :)

I can just see this being fun, fun, fun!

Glad to hear that you all like the idea!..................

What if we ask Wayne to contact his friend Jason surrell and organise for a signed copy of each of his books, Haunted Mansion and Pirates to be the items up for bid in the mini auction?

Our 1st suggestion went down well so here's another. What if we have a meeting that's based around Disney books and music. We could all bring Disney books and Music that we have collected over the years, anything from your first Disney little golden book, to books on animation, the parks, and Walt himself, and we could show, and share tracks from our favourite Disney Cd's. It could also be a opportunity to have a members rummage sale of anything Disney, (books, toys and beanies, pins, scrapbooking supplies, clothes, memoribilia etc)

Don't even try and blame that on Della!!!!!

By the way did you hear about the two fish swimming across the lake? They hit a concrete wall, one looks at the other and says ..... "Dam"
