Upgrading of forum

Don't panic, it's not you!! :D

The webhost for the site is in the process of upgrading and moving the site to new servers and that has meant a lot of work (and blood, sweat and swearing) on my part to get everything ready for the change. That has meant some serious upgrades to the software running the forum which means lots of backend changes and a couple of frontend changes. The frontend changes are purely cosmetic at this point as I now have the forum running correctly.

I actually have my left arm in a sling at the moment, after an accident, so I have been doing this one handed, just to add to the whole thing. I just need to take a little time to decompress after the upgrade before I tackle the cosmetics. I promise I will have the forum back and looking the same, or better, in the next day or two.

Hi Greg - I was wondering what had happened. I quite like this new version (need to fix the page graphics but otherwise it looks good).

What happened to your arm?

What are you doing in Thailand these days anyway - weren't you running a coffee shop and cinema in Laos or somewhere at one point?

Opinions on this version?

I wish i had some long and impressive story about my arm but I was just out walking, tripped over and threw my left arm out reflexively and landed with all of my weight on it. Immediate swelling and bruising of the elbow and lots of pain if I try and move it at all. It's getting better but it will take a while.

I am now retired in Thailand and (usually) just travelling, relaxing and enjoying life. Luckily there are plenty of things to do here given that life in Thailand is pretty much normal.

Retired - good for you!!! Sounds like you are living the dream up there (except for banged up arm!)

This forum software is like what we used to use - I had to remember how to post URLs again :)

I always liked this version - I think maybe the Disney icons in the topic page are a little too large as it spread the page down a bit, but otherwise it looks great.

Definitely a fresh look, so whatever you're doing Greg, keep doing it.

I just saw in your initial post, that managing this site was so easy you're doing it with 1 arm tied behind your back.

Don't make me laugh, it hurts... :D

I had to try to remember the url thing as well Keith. I'll have to have a look and see how to get the old toolbar back, it was much easier. I'll add adjusting the icons to my to-do list as well.

You are doing a great job Greg. Thanks - over 15 years this has been running now!

I like the new look Greg. I'd noticed it had changed but didn't see your post until just now. Great work! Hope the arm heals soon, it sounds very painful and I can imagine it is frustrating.

Whoops, i keep meaning to fix the icons, make then a bit smaller and more consistent. I will get to it eventually.

The arm is slowly getting better, I can wash both armpits now which is nice. :-) It's a real sign of age when injuries I would have brushed off when i was 21 seem to take forever to heal now. :-(
