I can't believe this is the last meeting of the year and it's only September!
Yes - it is unusual for the last meeting to be in September. Our normal schedule is for 5 meetings a year (Feb, Apr, June, Aug, Oct) plus a dinner meeting (Nov). However we threw that schedule out of the window because July 17 was a Saturday (so we couldn't resist a 55th anniversary meeting in July) and a number of us were going overseas in October as well, so we bought most of the meetings forward a month.
I personally like the October meeting (which has traditionally been the fancy dress) - because it is usually warming up by then and we get to say goodbye to people going to Disneyland for Christmas etc - whereas in September, it seems strange to say Merry Christmas - see you next year to everyone that won't make the dinner! I'm sure we'll be back on track next year - as we already have the April meeting scheduled - it'll be in the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel
Now - how about a meeting report and some pictures?
It was a smaller crowd this week as we had a number of people with other activities to attend to and Hong Kong Barry was home sick (GET WELL BARRY!!!).
We started off with the usual True/False trivia which Manuel one in a three-way face off with Jennifer and Mel.
Here's Wayne - calling out the questions:
We then went through the Australian Disney News - pointing out some competitions to win trips to Hong Kong, Tokyo and Anaheim, as well as upcoming movie and DVD release dates.
We then saw some vision of the massive Hong Kong Disneyland construction that is occurring - we were surprised by just how big this is.
Wayne then unveiled another secret from the Hong Kong Disneyland Club Trip...when we go to the Animation Academy to learn to draw a character, there will be a prize for the best Adult and Child drawing. On top of that, each of us will be presented with an original character drawing done by the instructing animator!
In the "What have you found" section, Manuel got up and talked about his visit to Disney HQ in Melbourne last week. While he was there, they gave him a Tron-themed pack which included a series of cards featuring images of all the upcoming Disney releases for next year. It even featured a shot from the upcoming animated film Gnomeo and Juliet (I haven't seen any stills from that, even on the internet - so what a coup Manuel!)
We then had a discussion about Disney on Broadway and Wayne showed us a clip from Mary Poppins. He then lead us through a history of the Broadway shows that had been out and I handed around my Programs and books from all the shows.
We then went on to group trivia, which our group sort of won (if it wasn't for the fact we got 1 point less than the other team...).
Wayne then showed us a slideshow of all the construction happening around Disney with the DCA makeover, Tangled Meet and Greet in DL, and the Fantasyland expansion in WDW.
I showed the new Tangled trailers and after an update about the dinner meeting in November, we ended the meeting around 9:15 and had supper and a long chat.
