Live Chat (just a little xmas gift from me)

Hello boys and girls,

Because you've been so good I have made an addition to the site. Whether it gets any use is yet to be seen but it is there to be used.

There is now a live chat part of the site which works like all those chat things that people use, or for an old guy like me it's like IRC. If you go to the main page for the site you will see a new box on the left that will show if anyone is in the chat room. Under that is a login box and once you have put your user name and password in a new menu will appear with a link to the chat room. From there it's pretty self explanatory. I thought that if a few people turned up at the same time it might be nice to chat in real time about any old thing.

I also remembered an IRC chat room I used to frequent many years ago that was a quiz one. People would take it in turns being the quiz master and asking trivia questions and the first person to post the correct answer was the winner. It might be a fun way to keep the Disney knowledge ticking over in peoples minds between meetings (and give those of us who can't make meetings a chance to show off) if there are regularly scheduled trivia sessions. Just an idea anyway.

So, how do you get a login name and password. To keep any Tom, Dick or Harry from accessing the site just send me a PM and I'll send you a login and password which you will be able to change to whatever suits you the first time you login.

Greg

I remember irc quiz chat rooms. they were great. You could use a quiz bot to run it.

Ok...I've been in and had a play with the buttons :D Loving that I can write in colours but I'm going to be at a loss without the throw up smiley that is my favourite on skype...

Let the fun begin. .... -/

So far it seems that a few of us have had attempts at getting this going but with not much success....

Heres a thought, could we have a little dot/icon/whatever that shows under our avatar when we are in the forum to indicate that we are logged into the chat room as well, and up for a natter?

Don't know if its possible but anyway, like I said... it was just a random thought.

Not possible as far as I know (maybe for someone with much more programming ability than me) but it does show on the home page if there is anyone there.

Another option I suppose is to have a pre-organised time and people can jump on then to chat. What I have done with my profile is set it to automatically login, so when the home page opens, I am already logged into chat.

I was going to arrange a "quiz evening" (thanks for reminding me) which was my original thought for this. I'll let you know more when I've got the questions sorted out.

How does about 7pm (8 for everyone not lucky enough to live in Qld) on a Tuesday or Wednesday night sound?

What a brilliant idea! We could do those regularly and advertise them at the club meetings. We might get a few of our regular "lurkers" (you know who you all are!) sign on for the website :D
