DUD January Scrapbooking Challenge

Postby sandie » Mon Dec 31, 2007 9:33 pm

Well its a new year and a new month and therefore time for a new challenge.

This is a challenge where you have to be honest. The challenge is to complete a layout using a technique yu have never used before.

Do you admire Lisa's glitter but always been too scared to do it yourself? Nows the time!

Do you buy heaps of lettering stamps but have never used them? Nows the time!

Think you have tried everything there is to try? Why not tackle:

a. A 12" circle layout on a 12x12 page?
b. A hinged mini book on your layout?
c: A pop up card?
d: Paper piecing?
e: Hand written journalling?
f: If your name is Keith maybe just try scrapbooking!

Do you have ideas for others to consider? Post them here!

Ok, there is one page of my Disney Album that I've been putting off cos I know sort of what I want to do but not quite how I can accomplish it yet so this might just be the challenge to make me attempt it. And it will likely take me the majority of the month to make it work - assuming that its even doable. I've been toying with using fabric on the page - a LOT of fabric! Printing on it, sewing it, beading it, tying it and maybe even dying it yet.
Not to mention how to attach it to the page

Hmm... anyone know how to marble dye muslin? :)

I thought of a few other ideas of different techniques for consideration as well...

g. make your own transparency - done this, its easier than you think; great for journaling and making your own Disney overlay with photos/disney font etc....
h.pocket pages for your tickets/guide leaflets
i. using 3D texture paste with Disney stencils
j.altered chipboard - rather than the 'ready to use stuff' - try using raw chipboard to ink, emboss, paint, glitter etc.... I love doing this cos then you get exactly the colour and finish you want.
k. Use point form journaling with a dymo gun

if you want any pointers on how to do any of these, email me, I'm happy to help.

They're doing it again Keith. They're trying to use their "jedi scrapbooking mind tricks". Resist the urge Keith.

"jedi scrapbooking mind tricks"
My mind is strong; Jedi mind tricks only affect the feeble.

Besides, I am about as creative as a brick :D

I'm one of those people who knows when something looks really good (or looks bad), but has no idea creatively on how to get a project from the bad look to the good look - if that makes sense...

Creativity ( in a scrapping sense) is merely converting what you see in your head into something you can hold in your hand.

A little instruction and I'm sure even you'd be Michaelangelo with the cropodile Keith.... I'm sure there's a Sistine Chapel in there just bursting to get out....

Hmm.... maybe we need a tutorial page..? :D

How about you start with a picture of Giselle ..... surely that would conjure up some creativity....

Maybe for our February challenge Keith could email us a collection of Keith/Princess photos and all the scrappers could make him a 6x6 album to encourage him!

OOOhhh.... a DUD circle journal.... sterling idea. -/ -/

leave it with me....

There might be a little rule change though, Keith can't keep one of the copies unless he participates and does at least one page ... its only 6 x 6 after all. :)

I do believe we have our Feb challenge....

Wow - this feels like an intervention! Do I have to admit that I have a problem...??? Errr...I've done that already though - an aversion to scrapping :)

Wow - this feels like an intervention!
hehe.....

Nope... we really do know you are a lost cause ( its just fun pretending you are redeemable). Maybe you could cheat and talk Della into joining the circle journal challenge by asking her nicely to do your pages for you though.... ( apply bribery if required)

you never know though Keith, one day, the temptation of the kindy glitz might just get too much and you might shock us all.

This circle journal idea is a corker though, but I'll do a separate thread for the Feb Challenge explaining how it might work.

Meanwhile all you Disney scrappers, there's a January Challenge to be getting on with....

OK, I just uploaded my 1st page for the January challenge... and I say '1st page' because I successfully managed to dodge the LO that I have been avoiding but might still have a go at.

The only comment I got at scrap night last night was that it was very "eggs and tomato sauce" so I guess that means that it was a little too yellow and red for them.

The new technique I used was to use felt on a page which I'd not done before. A little tip... it sticks really well just with tape... glue will make it go all yucky.
I think I might have a go at cutting out some flowers from felt next time and layering them in different sizes like the MM ones that you can buy... that way, I get the colours I want. - maybe even with my sizzix? This seems to be a favourite technique of the French scrappers, and they add pipe cleaners and raffia and buttons and other stuff. Yup, might try that yet.

BEWARE: BRAGGING MOTHER AHEAD :D

I've just added another item to the scrap challenge folder. Nope... its not a second LO from me for the month ( although, a few finishing touches and that will be there too :))

Nope, this one is by my son. Yep, you read that right. My 16 year old son.

He only scraps once a year. He's done it since he could hold a pencil. Every year, he makes me a birthday card.

In and around starting a mechanics traineeship with Mercedes Benz, preparing to start Year 11 ( which admittedly mostly involves copious texts to his girlfriend) getting his "L" plate licence (God help me) and the hectic social schedule that teenagers have, he managed to find time to make his mum a birthday card.

Now meeting the criteria was not all that difficult given that almost all techniques are new to him. He drew Mickey Mouse ( from a picture he saw on the net) and then cut the sections out in different bazzill cardstock ( that he raided from my stash) and paper pieced a 3D Mickey for the front of his card to me. And I might add he did this entirely without my knowledge or instruction - mostly because getting involved with scrapping might be misconstrued....

When he handed it to me,he told me that he qualified for the challenge and I should upload it into the folder on here so I'm not alone on the January challenge (hmm... must have mentioned that at some point)... course he was only joking but ...SURPRISE ZACH... I did it. -/

Just proves my point.... anyone can scrap.
