You can sit it out with me - Keith will probably go five or six times anyway so Disney won't miss the revenue!!!!

I was thinking he sounded suitable excited about the prospect.

I had to miss this years though, so I will probably go - if for no other reason than to be able to use all the princess scrapping stuff out there that I never get to use.

Thank you Lisa, it is so good to know that my self-sacrifice is not going unnoticed. I'm even willing to buy the glossy program :)

If the club were to pay for my tickets, airfare and accommodation to a major centre...I'd sit and watch a few princesses to save Keith from having to do it. I'm looking for the self sacrificing smilie but I can't see one.

At this years Disney on Ice we tested out a new low light lens (50mm fixed length though). We bought this lens for when no flash photography is allowed as well as silly to do, like Pirates, IASW etc and those types of situations in the dark and at night. I must admit it worked really well. Anyway, to cut to the chase, I have uploaded some of them for you to look at if you like. I was going to see if Greg could put them on the gallery but this way is as easy. Anyway click on the link and enjoy. http://gallery.me.com/ajplater#100070

Great pics! I tried to take in-door photos without a flash at Medieval Times (yes I did go, Make-a-wish gave us the tickets - great show) and they all came out blurry!

I have been umming and arring about buying a video camera but decided I did not want to look through a lens my whole trip so am now thinking of upgrading my camera. I currentyl have a little Canon power shot and it has been great, but I would love something with a bigger zoom lens and to be able to take your kind of pics and also fireworks. Any suggestions?

Our last camera was a Powershot G3 and it was a great Camera. But we were limited with those dark shots as you mentioned. We got some good ones, more by chance than good management. I've looked at other peoples cameras and decided that we're Canon people for sure. I bought Ros a Canon 400D DSLR last year for her 40th birthday and have been absolutely satisfied with it. It takes some great pictures and being a SLR the potential is amazing. That lens for example is a fixed 50mm with F1.4 aperture. We're looking to get another lens or 2 to help with covering most of our preferences.

If you don't want a DSLR, the latest Canon Powershot S series (S5 I think they're up to) is also an awesome camera. I've had a play with one of them and for a point and shoot it has great range, and the face recognition function works really well. The G9 is worth a look as well. For something smaller, the IXUS range produces some great shots as well. But I think you'll find they're all limited in low light, so if that is what you need look for something with an F stop in the 1-3 range, or go with a DLSR if size if not an issue and get the right lens.

Having said all that, I'm no expert, just learning on the way.

This gives me somewhere to start - I just know I need something more when I'm 3+ miles away from the space shuttle!

One thing I do know in that situation. If you buy a point and shoot, buy one with good Optical zoom and avoid using digital zoom. Especially for that particular situation. Digital zoom will more often that not pixelate and blur your photos. And for something so small that far away, you will definitely get a blurred photo using digital zoom.

Nice shots... that lens takes out a lot of the grain huh? thats what annoys me about the low light shots.
What sort of camera do you have that lens on Anthony?
I took a Canon EOS to the US and also used my little point and shoot (Olympus FE340)which does pretty well in the low light stakes.
One of my US friends that I caught up with over there had a Nikon 40D and I loved that.. the stuff he could do with that was just astounding - all the in-camera editing really impressed me... I think if I buy a DSLR anytime soon thats what I'd buy. He's a professional photographer and I picked his brain constantly... I learned some great little tricks with directional shielding the flash and stuff....

That's the idea of the lens. It utilises what they call available light, so the camera isn't struggling to find light. It does take the graininess out of shots and the shutter speed is pretty well normal as well, minimising movement and bluriness. The camera was a Canon 400D DSLR. We were nosebleed where we were too.

Yeah, the shutter speed was what wrecked many of my night shots in DL...if I couldn't find something to steady it on, then it suffered from the wobbles.... next time I'm going to take a monopod.
