Oswald the Lucky Rabbit

I've been pondering this for a couple of days now..... I'd heard of Oswald before and knew he was the first 'big star' for Walt Disney but never really took much notice...

He's very 'Mickey' isn't he?
Do you think Walt just tweaked Oswald to make Mickey? ( who of course is far superior anyway .... )
From what I've read over the last couple of days, it seems to me that he was quite a wayward little rabbit. Could be wrong though.

Mickey was much naughtier in the beginning too wasn't he? I haven't seen any of Mickey's early stuff. Only the sweet little mouse stuff.

Have Oswalds cartoons been released before or is this a new thing since Disney bought back the rights last year?

And if they had... has anyone seen any of them?

He's an intriguing little bunny.....

I'm not aware of any Oswalds being released in the past - at least not since the 1920's!

Yes, Mickey was a naughty mouse for a while - but as he increased in popularity, he became the corporate symbol for the studios, so they had to tone down his antics - Donald became the bad boy instead :)

I don't know how interesting these Oswald B&W cartoons would be to a modern audience, other than as a curiosity and of historical interest to animation historians. These are pre-Steamboat Willy, so feature no synchronised sound etc.
