Coco

I just posted this story Frozen short REMOVED from Coco screenings: Audience backlash forced Disney to Let It Go?  and have to agree that the Frozen short was very disappointing. I went in looking forward to seeing it but after a short time I just wanted it to end so Coco could start. Not much of a story, too many songs crammed into a short space of time, it felt like a clip from a direct-to-video sequel.

But Coco was great, I really enjoyed it.

Lots of hate for the Frozen short.  It was originally meant to be an ABC-TV Christmas special but they decided to attach it to Coco.  They should have kept to their traditional 5-10 minute shorts and not put this up front.

The problem they now have is that is has devalued the Frozen franchise - not what they want when they have a sequel in the works!

Yes, the Pixar shorts are always something to look forward to but this just felt wrong. I got the impression that the shorts were an opportunity for Pixar to try something new and/or different and to showcase the talents of some of their staff. I wonder how those staff feel about Disney usurping their spot.

I loved the Frozen short; the songs were good and Olaf adorable as always.  I love Olaf as I first saw Frozen when I was going through a really bad time with work and he just let everything roll off him and was happy no matter what.  It was interesting to see him go through a slightly different side though.

Coco was lovely and while I could guess the way the ending was likely to go (was hoping anyway) I liked the De La Cruz twist.  Stunning colours with great music and characters - very well put together.  My friend's little 5 year old was quite taken with it and apparently described it well to her Dad later in the day.  We agreed that it is a great movie for kids to learn about a Mexican tradition and maybe appreciate photos of departed family especially older generations.  Of course I'm thinking with an adult head not a child's so who knows!

I still haven't seen Coco but I did watch Olaf's Adventure when it was aired on Channel 10 on Christmas Eve - we really enjoyed it!

I seem to be in the minority here in not liking it.

I'm interested in hearing what you think about Coco.

I still haven't seen it - I'll need to wait until it comes to Bluray.

It would look great on bluray, the colours would be spectacular.
