Finally got to see it yesterday, on a big screen and everything.

I was impressed, I really liked it. Amazing level of detail (kept wanting to pause it and look around to see all the stuff in the background), likable characters, good story ( even if I did figure it out before the big reveal).

I can see a TV series coming out of this, no limit to story possibilities.

I've finally seen Zootopia now too...
I just wanted to get back in the line and buy another ticket and watch it again... ( which I didn't do because it was Saturday afternoon rates which even as a student nearly made me faint )
Such a great movie, and I agree, so much scope for further storylines.  The detail was amazing.  I was actually looking for a couple of easter eggs I'd heard of, and they happened so fast I only saw the end of the scene I was waiting for.  Well that, and Grandma and the 5 kidlets in the middle of the row who needed a loo trip every 15 minutes.... sheesh...
I believe this could well be a long standing favourite-in-the-making for me.

What does it cost to go to the movies in Australia these days?

Depends where you go.  Yesterday, (Adelaide major cinema centre) it was $17.50 for a student, that varies depending on which day of the week it is.  ( eg: mondays are reduced price again for students) ... who knows what the full price was.  In the little suburban centre I used to go see movies at in QLD it was $8.50 every day, but they would be lucky to fit 80 people in some of the viewing spaces.  It was a trade off - smaller screen/lights might not go off/sound may not sync but cheap prices.

I'm in Thailand for a few weeks at the moment and, for a world class cinema setup, it's about $5. I've seen 3 movies in the last week. :-)

So a "movies and dinner" date is a serious investment these days.
Makes that idea of paying to have access to a streamed movie on the day of its release not so crazy.

We only thought it was okay.  The main characters were likeable, but I don't know... left me feeling a bit flat.  Josh had had enough after about an hour and said "This movie is taking FOREVER!" so maybe having a fidgety kid detracted a bit from it.

Maybe one of the reasons I liked it is because I'm a fan of "police procedural - whodunnit" type TV shows like Castle, Bones and Elementary. It did have that sort of feel about it.

Another aspect of the animation is its very busy to watch... so much detail.  I know most Disney movies have levels that appeal to different age groups, but I wonder if this one was as much designed to appeal to a more mature audience as the littlies - or perhaps moreso?  Not sure.
All the adults that I know that have watched it LOVED it, and I have heard a few with kids in their party say only some found it engaging enough to keep them still.  My nephews (aged 8 & 9) have wanted to go see it, but when it came down to it, they chose to see other movies ( Jungle Book as an example) so I wonder if the aspects of the movie ( trying not to give spoilers here) that are more part of a grown up psyche ( jobs, tech, attending rock concerts, politics) are not registering with the kids?
probably over thinking it, but anyhoo.
We have had the opportunity to watch it again and spotted some visual references to a Disney classic or two.  I think there is so much to see that it could take a while to appreciate all the layers.
