Another aspect of the animation is its very busy to watch... so much detail. I know most Disney movies have levels that appeal to different age groups, but I wonder if this one was as much designed to appeal to a more mature audience as the littlies - or perhaps moreso? Not sure.
All the adults that I know that have watched it LOVED it, and I have heard a few with kids in their party say only some found it engaging enough to keep them still. My nephews (aged 8 & 9) have wanted to go see it, but when it came down to it, they chose to see other movies ( Jungle Book as an example) so I wonder if the aspects of the movie ( trying not to give spoilers here) that are more part of a grown up psyche ( jobs, tech, attending rock concerts, politics) are not registering with the kids?
probably over thinking it, but anyhoo.
We have had the opportunity to watch it again and spotted some visual references to a Disney classic or two. I think there is so much to see that it could take a while to appreciate all the layers.
