Concept art for the Pixar 'Newt'

Postby mushu mama » Sat Sep 04, 2010 7:10 am

Only a couple of days ago was Millie asking me whatever happened to the movie that Pixar was making called 'Newt' - who knew she even listened to a word I say  - anyhoo, then I saw this on FB this morning and that cleared it up... its not in production anymore...

From what I read, its possibly a little like the whole 'Wild' vs 'Madagascar' thingo with several other movies with almost the same plot point coming out very soon.

Heres the concept art if you want to see what we WON'T be seeing .... pity, cos it looks amazing.

I had been looking forward to seeing this one. :(

Anyone know what else they have up their sleeves instead?

Lisa.

Yep - it was a shame newt got the chop - but I guess if it wasn't working for them, they weren't going to make it. No one wants a Pixar flop...

The next three movies in Pixar's stable are:
Cars 2 in June 2011
Brave in June 2012
Monsters Inc 2 in November 2012

Newt was meant for release in November 2011 as part of Pixar's accelerated two movie a year attempt - but it looks like the move to two films a year was slightly ambitious, hence why sequels (except for Brave) are now the norm...

As Lisa has mentioned in the first post, the buzz going around was that Newt got canned because the plot was too similar to other movies about to come out from rival studios.

The other day, Blue Sky Disney posted this blog entry that explained it in more detail:
