Hi Sandie, I went on Saturday but only took passing interest this year as I don't have any holiday plans.

There were some specials including cheap Tokyo flights (which I was interested in - it gave me an idea on costs for next year). Qantas was also offering Qantas Club membership at $200 off.

I was also looking for Japan holiday brochures but these were in short supply.

Still, it is always worth going to - you never no what bargains you'll get :)

Well I went and I got no bargains!!!!!!!!!!

Because my husband will only fly Qantas I could not take advantage of the Air NZ fares to San Francisco of $1499 return.

And then to add insult to injury - my favourite place to eat at Darling Harbour has closed down!

A positive was I saw Kate who used to come to meetings and had a short chat.

I was also looking for Japan holiday brochures but these were in short supply.
When we went to Japan, we were constantly asked if we were there on business. Info on tourism to Japan was hard to find, but we contacted the Japan Travel Bureau in Melbourne and were sent HEAPS of great stuff, including detailed english maps of Tokyo, info on negotiating Narita Airport and bullet train timetables etc. They were a wealth of info. Worth a try if you are still looking for stuff.

And Keith, a word of warning, when we went, the meals on the flight to Japan were ... um.... interesting to say the least. And we flew Qantas..... So for those of us with a 'classic' palate, its worth checking if you can order alternative western meals. :D Course this could all be different now, but just thought I'd mention it.

That describes us perfectly :)

I never considered the meals on a Qantas flight would be anything other than normal airline food - I'd better check their menu in advance!

Thanks for the tip regarding the Japanese Travel Bureau - I'll get on to them as the time gets closer.

Let's see now, it is only 417 more sleeps!!

When we flew to Tokyo in September (with Qantas) we had the choice of a Japanese or Western meal. Being 8 week pregnant on the way over and 10 weeks pg on the way back, both made my stomach churn

We also contacted the Japanese Travel Bureau, to buy our railpasses initially. They were so, so, so wonderful! When I spoke to the guy (sorry his name escapes me) he asked where we were planning on visiting and when our passes arrived the package also contained a heap of brochures, maps, walking tours and other helpful info. WAY more than we got from any other travel agent.

I had the same experience. They really went above and beyond.
