I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to do the last big 'line up before the boxes are ripped open' thing...

On the length of the book.... I'm not as disappointed that its not that long any more, because it is just BAM BAM BAM with the 'OMG moments' on pretty much every page. I'm really struggling to put it down when my lunch break is over. :)

I'm almost half way through, and I'd be finished by now if I wasn't in the middle of a 47.25 hour 8 day week and needed to sleep occasionally.
that is just mean, uncalled for, cruel, juvenile, and shows no respect to all those listeners.
believe me, thats not the words that were being muttered at the time
Change stations!
Can't.... its piped. Usually its a brilliant station to listen to. I was amazed that they were being so inconsiderate to their listeners.
Having never read a book (yet)
{sharp intake of breath}

OMG Anthony......
I assume your daughter has the books... Read the first chapter of the first book. If you don't want to read the rest, I'll be blast ended skrewt. :)
But you know what? Lucky you cos you never have to endure the wait between books like the rest of us. You can just charge straight through the lot of them... .start to finish.
I'll give it 3 petronas out of 5.
hehe.... One only needs one Patronus.
ok, its back to first year for you Anthony...... repeat after me....
" Wingardium LeviOsa" not " LeviosA".....
Swish and flick.
Remember that first years who take on fully grown mountain trolls may not live to tell the tale.
And the third floor is off limits to all those who do not wish to die a most painful death.
and if all else fails consult Hogwarts - a History......
St Mungos, more of what happened in 12 Grimwauld Place, the whole young love angst just to name a few.
Oh yeah... I'd have loved to see all those.

I loved the whole Ministry of Magic stuff. Particularly the duel. That was really "OH" worthy.
And Harry and Cho's kiss.... now that was magic.

I'm really struggling to put it down when my lunch break is over. :)
Yep - I'm struggling with the reading of this book altogether - for exactly the same reason, I don't want to put it down, but I don't want to read it too quickly either, but I don't want to read it too slowly in case someone on the train blurts out the ending - what a conundrum :)

I'm almost half way through too, and I just don't want it to end, knowing that this is the end. I wish this series would continue, we are unlikely to ever have anything quite like this phenomona for many years.
Having never read a book (yet)
Grab 'em, read 'em. The books have a lot more depth and side stories than the films. Do yourself a favour - and the books get better as you progress through the series.
And Harry and Cho's kiss.... now that was magic.
What I really missed from the film was the moment of Harry and Cho in Hogsmeade when she breaks down crying and Harry doesn't know what to do - that whole scene just cracked me up in the book. I loved how he reached for her hand and she pulled away, so he ended up grabbing the sugar bowl - so funny :)

I guess this year's sequels (POTC and HP) showed one thing - If you had seen the previous movie or read the book recently, you have a better appreciation for the film.

As Anthony hadn't read Goblet of Fire, he got a little lost, whereas I followed it easily - my brain was able to fill in the missing bits from the book, yet Anthony and Lisa both enjoyed POTC3, whereas I was completely lost.

I now believe both films are very good, you just need that extra level of continuity with them.

I see POTC3 just broke $950million - which to me says that a lot of people are seeing it multiple times. Probably they went home confused, watched POTC2, then went back and saw POTC3 and said "Ahhhh...so that's what is happening" - I guess I should have done that too...well, I'll have for the DVD!

WOW, Peer pressure cyber style!

Intriguing points you make about continuity Keith and I guess you have a point. With the HP movies, whilst they're very enjoyable and have a story as such, obviously with the inner knowledge and further pieces of the puzzle makes them more complete. I did enjoy Pirates because I suppose I was able to join dots easier as there was no other "outside" knowledge required.

I will admit the more of the HP movies I see (especially at home over and over) the more I do want to read the books. First thing I need to do though is get past a course I literally have commenced this week (by corresepondence) which should last approx 6-8 months. I'll start the books shortly and read them at a leisurely pace, like on holidays and odd plane trips for work.

And I'm with you, I too am happy to wait for the DVD to watch POTC3 over and over. We'll even do a POTC Marathon on the odd occasion!
2023 Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Lines - Disney Wish. Going to be awesome to be back!

Nope.... no pressure.... I just know what a master storyteller JKR is and this series really is worth reading.
obviously with the inner knowledge and further pieces of the puzzle makes them more complete.

Yep, the movies are like the the skeletal core stuff. JKR oversaw the movies so that each contained the vital points of that particular book. The fleshing out of the story is what gives the tale its body and character.
First thing I need to do though is get past a course I literally have commenced this week (by corresepondence) which should last approx 6-8 months.
good luck with that. Beware of the 'sidetracks'. I put the text books down 6 months ago and haven't picked them up since. Come to think of it, maybe I should finish that.

I already do Pirates marathons. But whole weekends get lost to Starwars and Lord of the Rings. Complete with Sting and/or Light sabres and Darth Tater. :)

So how is everyone travelling with this book?

I've less than 100 pages to go (my boss still won't let me read it at work. Doesn't he know how much more productive I'd be if I could finish it and not sit here speculating on how it is all going to end!)

I love it - I don't want it to end :)

Me too! And I can't wait either, maybe we should start a new thread with highly visible spoiler markings in the heading and the first page...

Ok... now that just sucks not being able to read a HP thread..... :?
Good idea to start another one though. I'd hate to find out the end yet.

I'm really letting the side down, I'm still only half way. :(
although, looking at it another way, its like enforced savouring.... :)

I've added more hours to my working week than I thought it actually had. ( last count... 50 hours).... so reading is just not a possibility when I fall asleep at every opportunity.
on the upside though, I might just get that holiday now after all.

Hmmm..... Now... where will I go?

On my one day off I won't be doing anything but reading :!: I MUST finish this book asap.
