Excellent Greg! You are going to have a great time there - if you can survive the crowds at this time of the year!

Wow... thats gone fast.
Have fun in Tokyo, we were there early Dec and the crowds were bad enough then, so I can only imagine it'll be pretty packed.
I wonder do they still have the strawberry churros there?

Me too - he should almost be there now. I don't think he'll have too much trouble as long as he doesn't try and visit on the 31st.

Yep, got my ticket!! Disneysea here I come!

I went to the JR station here in Narita and they sell them there. It's not the final ticket, I have to get that at the gate, but this is a paid voucher with the park and the date etc on it so I shouldn't have a problem.

As for the crowds...don't forget that I don't do scary rides so the queues won't affect me.

Man Greg after all your adventures and wild forms of transport, you are still scared of Disney rides that have probably the highest safety standards in the country!

Have been enjoying your updates and felt a little sad for you as you left the kids. What a surreal world we live in that a day or two's travel can provide such contrast in cultures. But I note the food is no more desirable.

Yep, enjoyed the update... sounds like Nepal was a pretty special place. Although, going from the sedate pace of Nepal to the frenetic energy of Tokyo may well do your head in Greg.

I'm surprised you don't like the food though, I thought you liked stuff that defied description?

Enjoy your dose of Disney.

I really hope he gives every ride at Disneysea a go - including Tower of Terror. He will be missing out so much otherwise!

And Journey to the Center of the Earth - that is not a scary ride but he may think it is! Please Greg - go on it!

Ahhh... famous last words.

the question is, after all that queueing, do they still have strawberry churros?

And Greg left the park without buying ONE thing to take home.... isn't that against the code?

(Oh.... and yes, Japanese Loo's are a wonder all of their own... )

Definitely against "The Code"!

He did visit on a very bad day of the year - and he was warned by us beforehand! Tokyo merchandising is better than any of the other parks and the Japanese know it too - so on the day he went which was completely packed, all the good quality merchandise would have been sold while he was still exchanging his ticket :)

Although as for pins - it is true they don't sell many of them now. It used to be a massive thing there, however they had to ban pin trading as pushy traders began to make things uncomfortable for other guests.

Seriously? wow... I didn't know that.... wow.... can't believe they had to go to such extremes with what must surely be a most lucrative marketing thing.

The Japanese are almost impossibly polite - which I think meant they were vulnerable to shonky traders. They were reluctant to turn down a bad deal in case it caused offense.

For the same reason, there is no price haggling for goods in Japan - including in marketplaces - you always pay the ticketed price.

So pin trading was wound up as it was really against the normal Japanese psyche.

Disney related update to my travel plans:

I have just finished booking my hotels for Paris and LA, the last of the ones that needed to be done and this was my last opportunity to get net access before i arrived in Paris. Hence...

Paris: 7 nights at the Disney Santa Fe. I did all the calculations and compared to other hotels I could get it worked out okay with breakfast and tickets for 8 days thrown in. It's an easy train trip from there into central Paris and easy to get to and from the airport. Plus I've never stayed in a proper Disney hotel actually in the park and figured this would be the time. The funny thing is that the booking would not allow for a single traveler and I had to list a fictitious person to share the room with, which means I'll have two tickets.

LA: It got good reviews on this site and it's really close so i went for the Park Vue Inn.

Greg

PS. For the first time ever I got upgraded on the flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong. Business class is really nice and I can't remember the last time I wished a flight would take longer. Amazing food too.
