Hijacked

Postby churros » Fri Aug 15, 2008 8:08 pm

I previously asked if anyone knew how to tackle my current CiD hijack problem. I know someone replied because I got the email but I didn't get to read it! Can you post again?

That was me.

Here's what I said, roughly.

The site for the little piece of nastiness you have (that may have something to do with messenger) is here http://cidhelp.com/ and has this to say:

4) The use and presence of the Software is voluntary. The Software may be uninstalled at any time from your computer. The only authorized means to uninstall the Software is to use the ADD/REMOVE function on your control panel or contact support@cidhelp.com for assistance. Instructions to uninstall the Software are as follows:

1. Access your control panel by going to the Start menu;

2. Select Control Panel;

3. Choose ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS; and,

4. Select Messenger Plus! and Sponsor or CiD Help for removal.

5. If you do not remember which bundled software product you installed that included the sponsor software you can download and run the universal uninstaller located here http://nb.dns-look-up.com/bins/uninstall.exe.

From reading a few forums people have used the software that they say to successfully remove the popups or you can tackle it the manual way by following the instructions here http://www.my-whiteboard.com/featured/r ... puter.html

It seems that there are a lot of people out there in the same boat.

No joy yet! I had a friend come over who has her own IT consultancy and she got rid of Norton and signed me up with Trend. She did a bit of a clear out and it seemed fine for awhile but it is back and just as frequent as ever. I suspect one of my sons has downloaded something that it is attached to like messenger live. I uninstall everything that seems to be related to it but I just can't find that particular file. Those &@^#%$ know how to hide things! I have been putting up with it because I prefer to do other things on the computer when I have the opportunity but I must tackle it again before I go away - my husband who is staying home to feed the cat has next to no computer skills and he will freak out if it starts happening everytime he opens itunes.

I put Trend onto my laptop before I went away ( under instruction from a friends husband that has an IT business). I'd never heard about it but I had no problems when I was logged onto all and sundry networks in the US... so I'm thinking its pretty good.

Maybe it's time to try that cleaner I linked to in my first post. It is from the crowd that created the thing in the first place.

Funny - I was going to reply with "Frown" but I thought Lisa would begin a game of her own - and I was right :)

Bring it on Lisa!

Ok I decided to give this a go but my new security system is so good it won't let me access the site to work out what files this is attached to as I have previous deleted the messenger files but can't find this voluntary uninstall. I have added the URL to my the OK website list and I have unticked spyware and hacking but each time Trend finds another reason to block the site - shame I didn't have this the first time this #%^@& appeared! I battle on!
