Manly Sea Eagles

Postby mushu mama » Wed Feb 27, 2008 6:11 pm

Now while I am loath to start another boys club thread, I just can't help myself.

Today, I had interesting experience of meeting 7 members of the Manly Sea Eagles.

The ironic part of this tale is how little I know about rugby. Almost zero actually. In fact, when the girls I work with were in a right state about meeting the 'boys' I was only mildly interested at best ( being an AFL girl) and volunteered to hold the fort while the others went and swooned over the boys in maroon.

(part 2 - sorry, still having issues posting stuff)
As it turned out, after the girls had waited for over half an hour and there was still not an Eagle in sight, they had to return to work as it was time for my shift to finish and I wanted out. :) So Lisa wanders down in the general direction of the centre stage and low and behold there are the boys with only a tiny line of people about half my height waiting for autographs. A spur of the moment decision made, I lined up and got all 7 signatures on a Eagles poster ( I also got one each for my workmates) and had all the time in the world to talk to them, thanks to the short line.
And really, all I wanted to do was see what a rugby player looked like up close.
And my lasting impression... they had noses that resemble Wal Footrot. :D
I love sport but I just don't get rugby.
Any Sea Eagles fans out there?

They are footballers - you would only need thirty seconds and you'd have had their full vocabulary!

Ahhh...there I go, spoken like a true Penrith supporter (for those outside of Sydney, Penrith and Manly fans have had a long standing rivalry!)

I like rugby league, and watch a fair bit during the year - mainly Friday night games if I am home in time from the pub :) But I'm no expert - I just like something that gives close competition without making me fall asleep - and league answers that.

yep... that about sums it up.

I've watched a few games, but I still really don't get it.
Its amusing to watch them squish each other though.... Like they can't think of what to do so they just sit on the ball. ( my apologies to the diehards but thats how it seems to me after watching the precision of AFL games all my life
 )

I don't think it's worth getting into the AFL versus NRL battle, because it could get ugly. But regardless, they're both dopey over trained under socialised neanderthals who take drugs and drink alot because there is nothing better to do with their time and money.

Having said that I've been following the game all my life, played it as a kid and follow the Eels religiously, and share Keith's views on Manly Sea Eagles (and all teams East of Homebush, North of Tweed and South of Albury really).

Best thing that happened in AFL was not only the Swans winning in 2005, but the fact that Melbourne teams no longer win the flag. That is just so satisfying.

I thought everybody had a rivalry with Manly!!!!!!

I can't wait for footy season - boys going off every weekend with their expensive season tickets in hand means girls can go to dinner and the movies!!! I wish footy went for 12 months of the year!!!!!

Now Lisa - no more boy threads!!!!!

I totally agree, both codes have too much excess and not enough footy on their minds. And you won't ever get me being ugly when talking about sport... its just a game right? :D

And I am not a stereotypical (Ex-) Victorian in that my team has been Brisbane for a looooong time now so I am more than happy for the flag to be in QLD thank you very much.
The only years we won that precious flag, I was working all day each time and didn't get to see the game.... now THAT irked me more than I can say.

Sorry Sandie for starting another boy thread.... I do like sport though... with the exception of car racing and I draw the line at watching golf ( like watching paint dry - but I will play it ).... curling, jelly wrestling, even rugby.. its all interesting.

(woo hoo I'm a C Ticket!)

Now a thought just occured to me, and no it didn't hurt  . You girls have spent more time talking guy stuff than girl stuff, even though the guy stuff has detracted into girlie talk, I'll still accept it as a guy topic.

So is this an admission that talking good stuff like Motor Racing and Football is more fascinating than the regular girl talk?

No, its an admmission that Lisa and I are both into charity and decided to lower ourselves to the normal male standard so you boys didn't feel left out!

Congrats.... :)
I was thinking about our ticket system the other day and wondered if I am destined to be a multi E for the rest of my days? I wonder if there could be a secondary set of tickets? like fast passes with Disney Characters on them ... ( like a mushu for instance , or of course other favourites)

And about the 'boy topic' .... I like talking footy so that is not an issue. But the car racing... sorry... but that is open season as far as I'm concerned.
Any and all pot shots allowed.

I have no objection to the scrapping section being hijacked in the name of good fun and consider the car thread in a similar vein. :P

And that's fair enough too. As you said, all in good fun, and good fun is what we like

On the ticketing, I've read they're referring to the new ride in Carsland as a Super E Ticket, it's that good, so perhaps we can have a Super E ticket 1-5!

The ranking system can be changed (sort of), but to give some history - Greg and I discussed the system in the very early days of the website...he wanted ideas for a ranking system and I came up with the ticket book idea. I don't think we ever thought that anyone would get an "E" ticket - boy, were we wrong...I've been stuck on five Es for ages too.

It does change when we get to 1,000 though :) But that's all for now.

We can change the ranks, it can be anything we want it to be. One of my first ideas was cast member status - something like:

Fast food seller
Emporium Worker
Character
Jungle Cruise Skipper
Face Character
Parade Performer
Fireworks Tinkerbell
Park Manager
CEO

Or something like that - the problem was we couldn't come up with a decent order or enough jobs - we needed around 30 ranks. That's why the ticket system was good - it was easy and still Disney related!

We can also change the scale of the ranking, to make it easier/harder to obtain each level. For example, we could double the number of posts to gain a new rank so it takes longer.

The one problem we do have is that we can't change the little graphic A, B, C, D, Es - we can turn them off, but cannot change them - only Greg has that access.

If anyone wants to suggest a new rank idea - I'm happy to hear it - this website is for all club members - and the more ideas you guys can supply, the better it will be :)
