Car racing is all over for another year.

It was great to see three major categories go down to the last race: Formula One, Indycar and Nascar. And in all three categories, the lead changed during the race.

The V8s were a bit monotonous this year although it was close at times. I'm hoping the introduction of a couple of new brands may spark more interest next year.

And even after the Grand Prix there was thoughts that Sebastian may have been penalized or passing under yellows. That would have been more intriguing.

I too am hoping that Nissan and MB add some park because I thought the V8 was a little no hum this year. Whilst my blood is blue I hope that Kelly's and SBR make an impact next year. Knock those smug 888 boys down a peg or 3.

It is funny because I was thinking the same thing. I used to be 100% Ford, but now, I don't care who's wins or loses - as long as they beat 888!

Roland Dane whines when something doesn't go his way, and I'm sure he influences the stewards regularly. However I am happy to admit that Tim Edwards is not much better which is why even though I like Frosty and Will I don't support FPR.

Talking about car racing, I had the opportunity to head out to Eastern Creek this morning with a work colleague who has his CAMS licence to ride around the circuit in a Radical SR3 that is owned by his uncle.

It was a fantastic experience, we did a number of sessions and I also got to take lots of photos.

Here is a photo I took of the car with Trent (driver) and Rachael (another workmate) on a later session.

Pssst, ssshhh so no one hears, but I like the look of the Nissan V8 Supercars. If they go as well as they look, watch out. By the way look closely at a photo of the front, it appears that they have added some drag to front bumper/splitter on the side. Must have been one slick machine.

VF commondore looks fair. Front acceptable, rear butt ugly. But at least the interior looks classy and modern. First time in over 30 years they have achieved that.

While we're on new cars, I love the new Fusion in NASCAR. Looks close to a proper car now. Hope Marcos and the RPM boys get their act together this year.

I backing Ricciardo this year too. I've liked him for some time, and I think this will be his break through season and put it up some of the more fancied drivers and teams.

I'm heading out to Eastern Creek Saturday, gonna take me a lot of photos of some hot new cars from FPR, Nissan and Erebus AMG.

Oooh - car racing season is about to recommence :D
-/
I also admit that I found the new Commodore interior to be very nice - but the boot looks stupid - like someone has rear ended it and pushed it in; not sure what sort of look they were going for there.

I haven't had a real good look at the Nissan V8s yet, I saw their initial launch but haven't been following them much since then.

That new Fusion is a good look - I can't wait to see them on the track. Daytona 500 is just 12 days away!!!

Ricciardo is a great driver, he'll do well again this year. He easily out qualified his team mate throughout 2012, but that was a double edged sword as Vergne usually got knocked out in Q1 so could have his choice of tires in the race - opening up race strategy options that Ricciardo didn't have.

Anyway, let the countdown to racing begin!

The Mercedes look and sound awesome on track. The other 3 have the traditional V8 growl but the Mercedes has a formula 1 high range sound to it. I love it already and I wish them success.

I'm really looking forward to this season of the V8s. The old formula worked well for many years, but it was getting a little old and needed something extra to give it more of a kick. The introduction of new manufacturers has really added some spice. I applaud the Mercedes/Erebus team for joining up - they have great success elsewhere and I think they aren't in this to lose - it'll be great to see them develop the car and become more competitive through the year. I'm still banking on Triple-Eight to be the pace setters (especially with the Redbull money they now have) - but I'd like to think some of these other teams will be in a position to chase them down through the year.

Don't forget Daytona next weekend. Nicole and Matt visited the race track on their recent trip and bought me some call loot back, including a die-cast of Marcos Ambrose's car! Awesome! They were there on a Nascar test day so they have lots of photos of the new cars going around - I can't wait to see them.

Cool, I did see a guy yesterday with the 2013 Ambrose shirt on. My nephew is going over in May. After starting at DL for 3 days, yes he's hooked as well, he'll be going to Texas for the V8 round, then off to Charlotte for day 1 of practice for the Coca Cola 600, then straight off to Indianapolis for the 500 before NY and Europe. He is also stopping at Abu Dabai to visit the track, Ferrari World and drive a Supercars around the track. I've already put my order in for loot.

Can't forget Daytona, practice is already started and the fords are doing OK but it's early yet, still some changes and data to collect.
