He's done it!! He qualified in the cup. Actually higher than he did for the Nationwide. It's all go from here, go Marcos!
Oh Lordy!!!! I missed all the excitement!

I've been avoiding the car racing news sites this morning as I don't want to see who won the Indycar race in Canada - I've recorded it and are about to watch it. So I missed the NASCAR news - Marcos in the Brickyard 400 - totally awesome. Can't wait to watch that tomorrow!!!!

12th from 37th start is a great result for Marcos in the Nationwide. Next week, it's at Montreal, on a street circuit. He will kick some yankee butt next week!

Yep - I was following the live timing on Nascar.com, whilst watching the Indycar replay! Technology makes things so much easier :D

What a great result from Marcos!!! 22nd after starting from last due to an engine change. I'm surprised both from his own speed and that of his team. Tyres were an absolute disgrace needing something like 6 competition yellows so they don't kill themselves or each other. Next week is Nationwide in Canada on a road, as well as a V8 round at Winton, and the following week is double duty at Watkins Glen, also a road course! Imagine if he won both races in the weekend. That would be something I reckon.

I recorded the race and watched it when I got home last night. Ambrose did a great job (even though he was not shown, nor mentioned by the commentators for the entire race!!) He finished ahead of Tony Stewart - on merit!! How cool is that.

The whole tire situation was a disgrace - it reminds me of the F1 race at Indy a few years ago when Michellin turned up with a tyre that was unsuitable for the track and only the 6 Bridgestone teams ran the race. These nascar tyres were worn down to the cords after just ten laps of racing. It has never been like that at Indy with Nascar in the past - Goodyear screwed up the compound.

Yep - can't wait until next weekend in Canada to see Ambrose running - but Watkins Glen is going to be a chance to really showcase - bring it on!

Reading Motorsport eNews this morning and they said that NASCAR will look to hold and open tyre test for Indianapolis from now on. It looks as though Bridgestone went with a more conservative compound following a test day earlier this year when 4 teams showed up and they weren't happy with the tyre. They went the wrong way obviously. That F1 race was a farce, hence why no more F1 at the Brickyard and in the US for that matter.

Speaking of USGP, I managed to catch a fair bit of the US MotoGP replay last Sunday. What a race that was. Rossi and Stoner are streets ahead of the rest and they raced hard. Was great to watch and sets up an awesome back half of the championship.

It was the only race this year I haven't watched - but yeah, it'll be great watching to see if Stoner can close that gap - very exciting!

I was wasting some of my lunch break yesterday wandering in the bookshop in the centre that I work in and stumbled across a book that made me think of you two...

I think you guys need it for forward planning. It was called "Top Gear's guide to Mid Life Crisis Cars". :D

It was full of glossy pages with fancy cars and the typically funny jargon that I only ever half understand.

Oh... and um... the car section was on the way to the travel section.... thats the only reason I had a car book in my hand. Honestly.....

Oooh that sounds like an interesting read. I'd like a car to feature prominantly in my justifiable going off the rails time of life so it sounds like something worth looking at.

Hmm, I'm starting to think to the contrary Lisa. You've often been a contributor to this thread so I reckon that the sporting nut inside of you also includes the motoring variety as well, but you just won't admit it.

Nup... never gonna happen.
The only interest I have in cars is what colour they are ( loving pearlescent pink finish right now - give me a pink one like this Image

or this pearlescent harlequin one: Image)

....and if its not going to break down on me - thats the important bit.

otherwise,..... meh.... not really me.

Beeurk! Sorry, not my cup of tea. I remember when the horrible pinky purple colour turn disgusting moss green colour was in vogue in the late 90s and the boguns would paint their VN Commodores in it. That was a time when the road was not a pallette of serenity that's for sure.

But having said that I could easily be seen driving in one of the GTR models (or the R34 preferably) in the first picture you've shown in Yellow or Blue.

Beeurk!

what can I say.... I like pink. :D

Zach tells me that the blue you are referring to is Bayside Blue for the R34 and gets the thumbs up.

But in my defense, the harlequin paint is a specialist blend that goes pink to purple to blue. It doesn't have green. Green would be yuck. :?

I also like the blue to green to orange as well.... I'm evidently in my hippy phase. Might last a few more decades I fear.

...Anyway, back to racing. Anthony - did you watch the F1 GP on Sunday night? I can't believe Massa's bad luck. He dominated that race - a race that everyone thought the McLarens would run away with, only to blow up at the very end - still can't believe it.

I normally hate the Hungarian GP - usually a terribly boring race, but this one had drama throughout.

Did I mention that Channel 10 show the GPs live on TEN-HD? Much more civilised having them on at 10pm instead of 11:50pm or whatever they show it on Channel 10 standard-def.

Big weekend ahead for Ambrose - can't wait to see how he performs at The Glen.
