I read pillars of the earth years ago but have just started on some more Ken Follet
He's one of my favourite authors of all time! I always get swept up by his historical novels, they are meticulously researched and epic in scope - I always get disappointed when I get to the end as I always want more!
and one year he was one of the speakers, and he is great
That would have been great - it is amazing how many awesome authors have to self publish at first after being rejected. He would be good to listen to.

Here's a coincidence. I intend to start reading the final book in the hunger games trilogy on a flight to Ballina tomorrow and was reading some old posts on this thread and saw that I had been reading an earlier hunger games book on my last trip go Ballina. Spooky!

The only book I've read in the last 6 months (other than homework and travel brochures - also homework) is 'who moved my cheese?' which was a very good read.

I read that book many years ago Lisa. It is an excellent fable to help people cope with change as well as helping with managing people through change.

yep, it really is a very simple tale but so well thought out. A friend at school loaned me her book when I had my cheese moved yet again... I'm pretty sure my cheese has wheels on the bottom of it...

Now that I've finished the course, I am hoping to actually read a REAL book again ...

Thought I would resurrect this thread again seeing as I have rediscovered 'reading' again.

So ...I've only just finished reading the Hunger Games ( and have just noticed that Beth was a year ahead of me on that score  ) , the last book took me the longest cos I had to keep putting it down every time another character had a 'bad day'....

I'm thinking of reading Game of Thrones next... anyone read it?

A lot of my friends are reading on Kindles or iPads, but I am still doing it old skool, cos I love the paper ...

I'm reading book two right now Lisa, having just finished the first one. I seriously cannot put it down! But be ready for a long slog as each book is around 1,000 pages of small print! The chapters are relatively short though - so it makes for the perfect book series to read on the train trip to work :)

Just started watching season 1 of the TV series last night as well - it is very close to the books and a quality production (not for the faint-hearted though!). I didn't want to watch the TV show until I'd finished the first book.

Just finished reading the 50 shades of gray trilogy. Oh my! Quite pornographic but the next big thing!

Now I'm reading Eat, pray, love. Waiting for it to get good!

That'll work for me, that's my favourite style of book.
I didn't want to watch the TV show until I'd finished the first book.
yep, me too... I want to read it then watch it ( on DVD - can't stand the ads)

OMG... a book I've read before you guys.... I LOVED that book, and the movie... but probably because I felt like I was reading my own life... the first 1/4 of the book took me a very long time to read cos I kept bursting into tears... hmmm.... still waiting on the year long epic journey though. although, its definitely not as grippingly ( if theres such a word) fraught with drama as some other books so its probably a 'light read' for most folks.

I'm reading Game of Thrones now too and LOVING it :) I've got about 150 pages to go - sounds like a lot, but in 1000-odd page book, it isn't! - and I'm finding it disappointing when my bus and train trips are over and I have to put it down. I'm reading it on my iPad, like I read most of my books now. I don't think a real book would have survived well in my handbag.

I didn't enjoy the final book in The Hunger Games as much as the first two. I rather enjoyed the movie too.

That is exactly how I am every day reading the Game of Thrones books!

I've only got about 200 pages of book two to complete and I'm also watching an episode of season one every night on DVD (only have four more episodes to watch). The TV series is brilliant by the way - just make sure you've read book one first!
