The place to discuss the things that may not be strictly Disney.

Best movie of 2007?

Postby mushu mama » Fri Dec 07, 2007 8:36 am

Another random question that struck me when I was doing the last post...

what was your favourite movie released in 2007 Disney or otherwise?

I haven't even come up with my own answer yet but thought it might be interesting to see what everyone enjoyed this year.

I'd like to say PotC or HP but both disapointed me. I am going to say Wild Hogs but I have high hopes for Enchanted and National Treasure

I liked Ratatouille, Harry Potter, Spiderman 3 and Hairspray - I've made no secret that I wasn't too impressed with PotC3 (although I plan to watch all three in a row over Christmas break) - but my favourite, completely over the top, fun filled, action packed, helicopter and explosion movie of the year, is Die Hard 4.0.

I liked it because it didn't take itself seriously at all - everyone was having fun in that film. I didn't have to think about it, I didn't have to worry about it, there was no environmental undertone, there was no political correctness, I didn't have to cringe at the violence because it was cartoon style and always lightened by a gag. I just sat down, went along for the ride - and most importantly of all, I was entertained (and Della was entertained too - which is a big score for these movies).

I'm also looking forward to National Treasure, but more so for Enchanted.

Ok, I've decided which movies were my favourites....

Top of the list was Ratatouille. I loved it from start to finish.
A definite keeper.

I also loved POTC3 and Harry Potter. The wild plot of POTC was fantastic and I thought HP was the really well done.

I can't wait for National Treasure 2 and despite my usual feelings about mixed cartoon/live action movies, I'm looking forward to seeing Enchanted now too.

Another movie that I really want to see is Atonement.

Just got back from Mr magoriums Wonder Emporium - and it was ok! A bit predictable but had both my kids in tears and as a bad mother that was kind of enjoyable for me  !

Can NOT believe I'm saying this but... here goes....

(drumroll please)

best movie of 2007 had to be Enchanted.

followed by Ratatouille and then closely followed by NT2.

Enchanted was the only movie this year that I had to have the soundtrack. And really, you could knock me over with a feather that I am that impressed with this one.

I said that to Della when driving home on Saturday night. She said "I can't believe you thought it was better than Die Hard!"

Well, I did :) - so much for my helicopters and explosions persona!

From the moment (SPOILER AHEAD) during the opening credits of the movie where the camera flew into the castle to reveal the Enchanted book and the "Walt Disney Pictures Presents" appeared in the old fashioned script, I knew this was a film that was made for those who enjoyed the animated fantasy movies of the past. (END OF SPOILER)

It was able to look back at the old Princess films without poking fun at them (take note Dreamworks...) and proved you could have a modern fantasy comedy/romance without being cutting or satirical (again, take note Dreamworks!).

Well done Disney - the only flaw with this movie is that not enough people will see it at the cinema - especially in Australia and the box office figures are proving it (Disney, please don't dumb down marketing in Australia!). Why didn't they release it here three weeks ago, before NT2 and The Golden Compass - those last three weeks were dead as far as movie releases went, everybody would have gone and seen Enchanted!

Yep - best movie of 2007 :D
