Last minute trip to USA results in...

Yes, you read that correctly - my DH and I have tickets (or will have by the trip) to the World Series Baseball in the USA and last night we purchased our flights. We NEED to fly through Hong Kong and we HAVE to wait for connecting flights. That leaves us at HKDL TWICE - one day on the way and two days on the return journey.

To say I'm excited is a huge understatement!

We will have a tight connection in New York if San Francisco make the series but if it's Cincinati, St Louis or Washington we will be close enough to easily travel to the games.

So all up our little last minute trip will take just 15 days but I'm happy to report that we will be going to New York and neither my DH or I have stayed there so any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Our first trip to HKDL was in 2010 before the Toy Story land and Grizzly Gulch were opened. So I'm after any must dos and tips to make our whirlwind trip more magical. We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel (stayed at Hollywood last time). Any info appreciated. TIA

Wow this is awesome Kylee. I'd love to do the world series games one year. How did you get tickets?

New York is brilliant - my favourite overseas city by far. Not sure about passing on tips though as it really is a city set up for exploration by yourselves. Just remember to make use of the subways - they look difficult to navigate, but it is actually quite easy to get around once you understand the Uptown/Downtown signs. Make sure you check out the Disney Store in Times Square. If you are going to see the tourist sites like Empire State and Statue of Liberty, you can book tickets before you leave Australia and avoid the queues. Spend time in Central Park - we were only going to spend an hour there and ended up walking around for a whole day and only scratched the surface (and make your husband row you around the lake in the row boat like in the movie Enchanted - it was a blast and the lake is beautiful). I'm very excited for you! (Wish I was going back...)

HKDL is a great little park and you'll be so busy with the new stuff that you don't really need our help - just head over to Toy Story Land and Grizzly Gulch - take lots of photos, and come back here to tell us about it!

Thanks Keith!

We scored tickets to games 1 & 2 as our restaurant sponsors Perth baseball (last year was the cheerleaders, this year we have field sponsorship). Contact person happened to mention the MLB and a conversation was born. We love checking out the baseball in the US - one year we followed spring training! Never overpromise something to a sponsor! ABL certainly delivered! And we are two happy campers going to the ballpark!

Find out at 4am tomorrow if San Fran has a chance...this is the one team we do not want to make the finals (we are landing in New York at 11pm the night prior to game day).

Has HKDL updated to a PhotoPass system yet? I haven't booked my character meals yet...DH wants to know why we HAVE to do character meals...I won't write on here what I replied to him.

Still no photopass when I was there in January. They use the old ticket system when you get a photo taken and you have to go to the photo shop to view and select your photos.

haha - he has to do them - it is traditional :)

As you are staying at the DL Hotel, you can book the Enchanted Garden breakfast or dinner for your character meals. Good food there too.

Hope you have a great time at the baseball - it is so much fun being in the crowd at those Major League games - and the World Series would be that much better!

Mmm...well we did end up cheering for Giants as there did not seemto be alot of Tiger's fans in the sea of orange walking thru San Fran!
Lots has happened since then...currently it's 2am and we are in NY waiting out hurricane Sandy! Not happy but still alive and well so can't complain. City is shut down until Wed at least and supposed to leave on Friday- wish me luck!

Upside is we didn't get alot of tourist activity in so DH has been thinking of adding a stopover to next year's cruise. Every cloud has a silver lining!

Will tell you all about my HKDL trip on my return,

Wow - I forgot you were there! Stay safe Kylee - I've been watching the reports come through all day. You'll have a great story when you get home! Where in NY are you staying?

Glad to hear you're safe. how horrible to have to have that happen on your holiday.

We still haven't heard what happened after the storm in New York. What was it like? Were you delayed getting out?
