Small World Opening April

Postby KeithS » Wed Mar 26, 2008 6:50 pm

This Thursday, there is to be a press conference at HKDL to announce the opening date of It's A Small World (IASW) at HKDL. The opening date has already been seen in new print advertisements around the region as being the 27th April.

Also at the press conference tomorrow, there could be further announcements about the park expansion plans - so let's keep an eye open for press releases!

The most anticipated attraction at Hong Kong Disneyland since opening, it's a small world, has finally been given an official opening date and some sneak-peek photos from Disney.

Thanks Loomis - nice pictures!

I note they still didn't announce any future expansion - maybe at the official opening event? The only thing said was that "Walt Disney was ready" - which I guess means they have stuff to go in if the HK SAR gives the go ahead (and some money!).

When are you heading over there? Can't wait to see your IASW pictures on your site when you return.

That picture with Stitch in it is a bit of a preview to what the "controversial" make over in Disneyland will deliver. Look forward to one day seeing the HK version!

And the fact that IASW will be closed when I am at DL while they make those changes is genuinely distressing for me... I love that ride.

Nice photos, thanks Loomis.

I was one waiting to see what the new characters looked like before forming an opinion. I think the woody and jesse insert looks a little tacky. The others so far (eg cinderella) look OK.

I read on various forums that many people are worried about similar changes happening at DL. I guess I don't have such an attachment to this attraction but quite like the HKDL photos. I always felt IASW was on the tacky side anyway so I don't feel a few characters will make a lot of difference!

Have I committed Disney heresy? Don't get me wrong I'm all for a bit of tackiness now and again!

This should probably go in the DL forum but it follows on from previous posts.

"Disneyland is revamping the "It's a Small World" ride to accommodate today's fatter passengers on its boats and, more controversially, to include Disney characters among the anonymous dancing dolls.

The family of the ride's designer, Mary Blair, recently joined fans in protest, sending a letter to the company denouncing the "gross desecration of the ride's original theme."

Shock! Horror! Disney characters in a Disney theme park!

Not at all - I don't mind what they've done for the HKDL version - and I can't see it hurting the DLR version either to any great extent. The big uproar has mainly come from the Orange County annual pass holders who seem to think they are the keepers of the Walt Disney flame :D (to the point where you'd think he had bequeathed it to them himself!)

I had read that they intended to add the Disney characters in the DLR IASW and I'm pleased they are going to do it regardless of the opposition.
I really like the changes.
I don't think Walt would have wanted any of his rides to stagnate.

I especially like the Little Mermaid scene.
