Goodbye StormRider!

Postby KeithS » Wed May 20, 2015 7:55 pm

The Oriental Land Company and Disney today announced that StormRider at Tokyo Disneysea will be closing for good next year!

It will be replaced by a new ride in the same motion theatre based on Finding Nemo/Finding Dory.

Whilst I am happy to see new attractions, it is a bit of a shame to see an attraction that isn't linked to a Disney movie close. That said, StormRider was a bit preachy on the environmental side and you can't have too much Dory can you :)

From the concept art, the interior of the theatre looks unchanged, so I'm guessing it will be a reworking of the preshow area, a new movie and effects, and cosmetic interior changes. It is scheduled to open in 2017 in time for the release of Finding Dory.

 me too...

I actually am not too fussed they're changing it ( it got me so wet my mascara ran - and I don't like rides that do that), however, I think Nemo is well represented already in the parks world wide, and it'd have been nice if they had stuck to the steampunk/adventurer style of this part of the park and it was just revamped or redeveloped into a new offering along those lines. I love Pixar, but I don't want to see it at every turn. I tend to agree that the whole franchise thing is creeping across the parks... I hope they don't lose what makes them unique.

steampunk/adventurer
Yep - I think this is my regret. I love the steampunk theming in Disneysea - I'm sure Finding Dory will be a great ride, but this was such a unique park with its alternative theming and I'd hate to see it slowly whittled away in favour of just animated classics etc. Disneysea will still be a great park though!
