Destination D Updates

Postby KeithS » Tue Nov 22, 2016 1:52 pm

I'm not sure if you saw all the news on the weekend, however there was a bunch of WDW related updates at the D23 Destination D event in Orlando.

Destination D is like a mini D23 Expo, but held in Orlando in the years between the major expo.

Anyway - some of the announcements include new magicbands (or Magicband 2 as they are being called).  From the pictures I've seen online, they are a bit bigger than the original and feature a round centrepiece which can be popped out and pushed into a lanyard designed for that purpose.  That way if you don't like wearing the band, you can use a lanyard for your purchases, fastpasses, room access etc.

"Pandora - The World of Avatar" in Disney's Animal Kingdom is to open during the US summer next year.  Probably sometime around June.  Some new concept art was released showing the eateries they are building.

Star Tours - they will add some new adventures to Star Tours late next year by including scenes from Star Wars Episode VIII.

For those interested - next year's D23 Expo will be on in Anaheim from 14-16 July (so you might as well stay for Disneyland's birthday on the 17th too!).  It should be a good expo.

The next large D23 event for Walt Disney World is the event celebrating Epcot's 35th Anniversary. For fans of Epcot this should be very good as well.
