Star Wars Weekends ending at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Bugger, I never got to see one. While I can understand the thinking to a degree I could probably argue against it as well.

Yeah - I reckon they would have been great fun, but I understand their thinking.  A whole chunk of the park is going to be about Star Wars soon, so I guess there's no point to having special weekends.

What is different though is that the Star Wars weekends were like mini Star Wars conventions where the actors etc turned up, so that will be missing - unless of course Disney plan to have an annual dedicated Star Wars convention elsewhere?? (Remember, you heard it here first!!! LOL)

There are also all these reports in the press that they are basically trying to "cut down" on the number of people coming to the parks because it's more than they can handle. If they have a seperate convention elsewhere then it's extra money.

A Star Wars Weekend was on my Disney bucket list, so its a bit of a bummer that they are not going to continue.  Given the amount of time before the Star Wars land will be operational ( like YEARS) I think they jumped the gun on this a little soon.  Totally understand  them discontinuing it when there's a 'land' but I didn't expect it until closer to the opening.  I guess I might have to try and catch a Star Wars Cruise - which apparently began this year.  (like the Halloween/Christmas themed cruises)

I think you may have nailed it there Lisa - they've introduced the cruises to offset some of the disappointment of cancelling Star Wars weekends.  I was also interested to know why they stopped them long before the new land is constructed - I'm just wondering if the construction is going to be such an upheaval that they're trying to keep crowd numbers down?

I think you might be right about the numbers being kept down... it seems like I read a new post once a week about how crowded the parks are all year now... the 'quiet times' apparently are long gone.

Star Wars land construction has resulted in the permanent closure of the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show in Disney Hollywood Studios from April this year!  Add that to the list of other closures for this park including the Osborne Lights, Backlot Tour (including Catastrophe Canyon), and the New York Streets and Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area.  As they say - you need to crack eggs to make omelette and Disney are sure doing that to get this park up to scratch with new attractions.  I personally think it is great!
