Places to Eat

Postby sandie » Sat Oct 14, 2006 8:12 am

Ok so when we are WDW next year here are the places we plan to eat. Have you been to them? Give me some reviews. I have often been caught out by eating somewhere or something because a US forum has said it was good only to find out that their taste buds must be culturally different than ours. (The Blue Bayou Monte Cristo is a case in point)

Wilderness Cafe (Wilderness Lodge)
Ohana (Polynesian Resort) We have done it but I have heard the menu has changed a bit)
Californian Grill (Contemporary Resort)
Grand Afternoon Tea (Grand Floridian)
Boma (Animal Kingdom Lodge) Done it - Love it!!!
Beaches and Cream (Boardwalk)
Rainforest Cafe (s) (Various) always a favourite
Tony's Town Square (MK)
Liberty Tavern (MK) Dinner - already done this one
Crystal Palace (MK) Breakfast - don't even ask me why I need to eat with POOH
PLaza Inn (MK)
Coral Reef (EPCOT)
Rose and Crown (EPCOT) an old favourite
Tepanyaki Grill (EPCOT)
Sci Fi Dine In (MGM/DS)
MamaMelrose (MGM/DS)

Thats only 16 and if the free dining plan is offered again next year i will need to pick 23 so any other suggestions are welcome.

Grand Floridan Afternoon Tea - Is fantastic definitely worth it.
Sci-Fi - Food is fine as long as you don't for anything fancy, stick with the different sandwiches and burgers, great atmosphere :D
Beaches and Cream - Superb, one of my favourites places.

You've already picked it, but Boma at Animal Kingdom Lodge was superb (so many flavours - so much food!), as was The Brown Derby at Disney MGM.

Hey Karen - how many days to go now?

I hear that the Finding Nemo Musical is previewing in the Animal Kingdom at the moment - you'll have to give us a review when you get back!

:P to you too! :D

Well I sincerely hope you have a great trip (who am I kidding...of course you will - I just wish I was going too!)

Take lots of pictures - we want to see them in the gallery - especially Christmas ones! Now if only I could get over there for Christmas one year...(Della, are you reading this...hint hint...!)

Out of your list I've only eaten at the following:

Ohana's - we did it for breakfast in 2000. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We got a window view and could see the castle. The characters spent a lot of time with us even though we were two adults without kids (my sis and I). The food was delicious. We stuffed ourselves silly. :) I've heard that they recently changed the menu though so I'm not sure if the food will be as good, or maybe it will be better!

Rainforest Cafe - I've done it at WDW (97) and DL (2001) - but it sounds like you've done it before anyway. Our experiences were okay, but nothing really special.

Crystal Palace - Again, I did this with my sis in 2000. She's a massive Pooh fan and she loved it. I wasn't fussed. They took ages to seat us, even though we had a PS (we had to wait 45 mins after we checked in on time). The food was average, the character interaction was okay, but not as good as I've experienced at the Plaza Inn at DL which is the BEST for character interaction IMO.

I'm trying to remember if it was the Wilderness Cafe we ate at in 2002, but I think it was Roarin' Forks? Yep, just did a little online research and we missed this one. I've heard fantastic things about it though.

We didn't eat at the Rose and Crown as such, but we did go inside for a pint (well, I didn't have a pint, but the rest of the group did) and ordered fish and chips from the little stand. That was okay, if they food inside is just as good you should be happy.

Other favourite restaurants of mine are:

Cinderella's Royal Table - only for the novelty of eating in 'my' castle and gazing out at an empty Fantasyland. Food was average, but I got my pic taken with most princesses (for the millionth time!).

Chef Mickey's - It was fun and we got to see the main mouse without lining up for ages. The food was pretty good and I'd never been to the Cont. Resort before so it was a bit of a novelty.

One I didn't like was Donald's Breakfastasauros. Food was pretty yuk and the characters didn't spend much time at all with us if they even bothered with us in the first place. I wouldn't do that one again.

If you only knew how much it is going to kill me to eat here! I have a serious distaste for anything that comes out of the 100 Acre Woods! However my daughter is begging to eat there on our girls day so i will have to suffer.

Oh Sandie - it is not that bad!

We ate there (it was the only place we could book on the day of the Not So Scary Halloween Party) and it was pretty good. I really enjoyed the food at that lunch (and the restaurant gave us a respite from a VERY hot day :) )

We got in pretty soon after our arrival and had a good time - although you really have to like soft and cuddly animals (whereas my preference would have been a princess dinner...:D)

 Sandie, I'm not a Pooh fan at all either. It really bugs me that he can't spell. Like, REALLY bugs me. He just annoys me.

I didn't need therapy after either Crystal Palace or any of my breakfasts at the Plaza Inn at DL though so maybe I don't hate him as much as you do.

At this stage, I also have to add that I am not a Pooh fan either :)

I am sometimes pleasantly amused by Eeyore's outlook on life, and by some of Tigger's one liners, but on the whole, the Hundred Acre Wood is WAY too sweet and sickly for me. Give me a large group of Princesses to chat to any day :D

I was just pointing out that I liked eating at The Crystal Palace :)
