Soarin'...Over America?

Postby KeithS » Wed Jul 19, 2006 7:12 pm

There is a rumour going around the web today that Soarin' in WDW may be enhanced in 2008 with an all new film titled Soarin' Over America.

It was always thought that additional films would be added to Soarin' in WDW after Disney stopped short of calling it "Soarin' Over California" as it is in DCA.

I for one think this is awesome - I love Soarin' Over CA, but I'd love to see even more - this will be great if they pull it off!

Hello Keith

I believe this rumour has some back bone! apparently there was a lot of talk about showing major attractions from around the world. I love soarin', one of my favourites...................

Did you do Expedition Everest while in DAK? I had the opportunity to do this ride before it opened to the public, very awsome..................................

All the best

Did it, loved it :)

We also had a lunch with an Imagineer during our holiday and I raised the question of additional Soarin' movies - and whilst not committing to a straight "Yes, we are doing something new" he did state that the whole ride system at Epcot and DCA is perfect to deliver varied experiences...

It is an attraction originally from Disney's California Adventure park called Soarin' over California - a copy was then built in Epcot to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland last year.

It is an awesome ride (probably my favourite attraction in the whole of the Anaheim resort!) - Basically you sit in a suspended chair in front of a large format Imax screen, and it feels like you are hang gliding over scenic areas of California. They even blow air in your face that is scented with the area you are flying over (salt smell over the sea, orange smell over orchards etc...) It also has an great soundtrack by the late Jerry Goldsmith.

Easily one of the best rides in DCA, if not the Resort, for a ride based on an Erector set (a bit like our old Mecano sets), it completely sells the illusion of 'gliding' over California. (See the Modern Marvels: Walt Disney World DVD/History Channel show for a great illustration of how it was made).

Well, it would have were it not for a loud Australian family who felt the need to proove herself by pointing out how it wasn't "real". Are we really that obnoxious when we travel? :)

Soarin' is certainly an attraction that easily lends itself to an upgrade. I've not been to the WDW version, but I imagine that it is almost identical to the DCA version, yeah?

Orlando is exactly the same except for the queue area - which has a more environmental feel, rather than an aviation history theme (I prefer the DCA aviation history - but I'm a pilot so I'm biased!)

And of course it has a different name with the "over California" dropped.

That Modern Marvels DVD is awesome - I loved the erector set model!

I love this ride. It's my mums' favourite at Disneyland/DCA. I'd be keen to try difference scenarios though. It's a cheapish way for Disney to bring in a 'new' attraction just by doing a new film, ride sequence and effects.
